Despite the last couple of years, Altman's overall performance is excellent.

And as Andrew said, who are they going to hire that's better than Altman? There aren't many.

Agree.

If N'Faly Dante gets 21 boards and 16 points every night the Ducks will win 30+ games. That's the problem. Unless it isn't. Only time will tell. Altman on the Hot Seat? Get real. He's the best coach the Ducks have ever had.

Don't think Dana is going anywhere he doesn't want to go... but here's the link to that piece: https://burnerball.com/preseason-coaching-carousel-breakdown/

Wazzu will be a 9th. Kyle Smith is a very good coach, but doesn’t have the players.

Smith is a great coach. Give him the talent at one of the Top 6 teams and he'd dominate.

How about paying the assistance Coaches a pay raise, the same as Smith and keep them, they are the “worker Bees “ !!!

If the Cougs can get the new guys to buy in on playing defense, they can finish in the top half of the conference

If Bittle and Dante stay healthy, Oregon could have one of the better front courts in the country(knock on wood). Madsen is great. He seems to have a Pete Carroll like vibe to him. I still love watching him on YouTube addressing Laker fans after one of their championship runs.

Except for free throw shooting. Still can’t understand how players at this level are such poor free throw shooters

Altman on the hot seat is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in 2023. And there’s been a lot of competition...

Dana Altman has to go. With all the money Phil Knight has given the program and with no national championship to show for it?!!??!!! He needs to be FIRED!! He's a dinosaur.

Rick,

You identify yourself as being “old.” I have no way of verifying. Your inane comments, however, are getting old.

You may notice I did not address you as Mr. Using such a title is form of respect.

Altman is a consummate gentleman, but the team he had last year seemed to be a bunch of uncoachable prima donnas. His frustration was palpable, and there were mutterings about him hanging it up. I'm glad he didn't. That game with Georgia displayed talent , speed and unselfish play, in contrast to the standing around and run and shoot of last year. Here's hoping his team stays healthy and hungry. Altman deserves that.

Mr. Ross,

I agree with your observation regarding last years team. Will Richardson was a wonderful complementary player, but he seemed overwhelmed as a go to player. I never got the sense there was any chemistry with the team. The injuries certainly stalled the team’s development.

Agreed. I always remember the championship Trailblazer team playing the Sixers, the "best" team money could buy. Apart from Walton, and maybe Luke, they weren't the most talented guys on the floor but they each had roles such that the whole was greater than the parts. The Blazers haven't figured that out ever since.

Those great players are just cooling their heals, making brief experiences, and happy they don't have to play Philly in anyhwhere but dreaam land. Philly was my home turf fifty years ago. Altmen is the consomate gentleman, which the game needs. Also, possibly on a bad sign, so are the players. Hey man, this is Potland and we are nice folks in a nice town. drjimxlaw1964@gmail.com

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I really have no ties to so much of what is covered, but it's so darn good that it's some of the best money spent (outside of veal parmigiana on Long Island).

As an aside to the discussion, Jackson Shelstad played circles around Bronny James in the Les Schwab Invitational last year. He is quicker, more skilled and a smarter player. That bodes well for the Ducks.

I'm surprised you even mentioned that garbage column...That's like referring to a witch doctor or a shaman as a reference. C'mon John you're better than that, or at least I thought you were. Altman is NOT on anyone's hot seat...Although he has accepted some questionable transfer portal guards the last couple years that shouldn't ever have seen the floor. I believe the loss of two of Dana's long time assistant coaches has really hurt his ability to coach up some players and the team's over all consistancy

Point taken but he’s got patsy scheduling in a notoriously weak basketball conference and he’s not that adept at recruiting and never finished a decent season correctly. He’s lost almost as many as he’s won. So there is that. He hasn't won that many games total either. We agree to disagree but he’s best at retirement age anyway.

If Oregon State wants to be attractive to a conference — especially when the Big-12 is emphasizing basketball — the question shifts from “Can the Beavers afford to make a coaching change?” to ”Can they afford not to?”

The Beavers have a LOT to sell, but Beaver Basketball is a piece of spinach in their smile.

The Tinkle results are in; both Tinkle and OSU need fresh starts.

Maybe OSU and WSU can trade coaches!😄

John, You have placed a lot out in front of the public to consider. Would love to watch Coach Altman return to the Final Four with this team. Thank you.
