Lots of Coug alumni in Cactus League Spring Training over the weekend - big celebration in Surprise ballpark to watch the Mariners. They've sure got something to celebrate...
Thanks John for posting this! What a great story. Kami Etheridge turning around a program that was in the cellar for decades. Bella Murekatete coming over from Rwanda, only averaging 5pts her freshman year and growing into an all conference player. And of course Charlisse Leger-Walker missing 4 conference games in the middle of the season to fly from Pullman to New Zealand, not once but twice, to be at her grandmother’s bedside and then attend her funeral. Simply amazing!
Ditto... women are rocking the sports world right now. Did I miss your column John about our hometown Portland Pilots amazing come from behind victory over Gonzaga? Or did you note write about it? Best basketball game of the year so farm men/women/college/pro - hands down! 😎
Thanks John for covering something other than the never ending saga of where the boys of fall are headed. Congrats to the WSU Cougar women for working hard to win the PAC. Go Cougs!
Great tourney run by the Cougs. I thoroughly enjoy their unselfish play and international flair. Hopefully they get a 6 or 7 seed in the big dance so they have an opportunity to win a couple of more. A 8 or 9 seed would suck because a second round game would be real tough.
Inspirational win by the lady Cougars. What a great team made up of diverse international flavor! So excited for Cougar Nation. I look forward to seeing how they do in the upcoming NCAA tourney.
John, I appreciate the coverage you provide for the conference. Thanks for capturing this. As a WSU alum it has been a joy to watch this group. We have a lot to appreciate in our athletic department.
What is it with the officiating? It looked for a time like the Zebes were going to hand the game to UCLA, much like they had a hand in the UCLA - Stanford match; both in the waning minutes. The foul shots given to the UCLA player who slips down untouched on her drive to the basket was over the top. Calls do tend to even out, except when they don't. For me, a game decided by really bad calls poison the whole game. C'mon man!
You must be new not only to Pac 12 officiating, but officiating at WSU games. We've had some pretty bad calls over the years. Almost like money is wagging the officiating tail. The worst part....even with USC and UCLA splitting they still get those calls. How that foul is called by the ref in the worst position to call it and not reversed by one of the other officials is unbelievable. Yet unfortunately expected these days.
you must be new to Pac 12 officiating...They have a reputation, and it's not a good one...It used to be just in PAC 12 football, but it seems the ineptness is contagious.

Really good hire by Pat Chun.

The Pac-10/12 women play basketball? That should really drive some revenue in the TV deal along with the excitement over women's softball and crew.
Settle down Glenn. It's Sunday.
HA - money more important to you than great sports Glenn? Say it ain't so.
I just love stories like that. Everyone should have an experience like that. Thanks again for you heartfelt stories

Some strange calls late...

Go Cougs! All the way!
This is a great culmination of WSU efforts for decades to achieve gender equity in sports. Go Cougs!
Great pics of a Very improbable victory to take the championship
