Here's my counter. I am a 69 year old OSU fan who has lived in Corvallis for 44 years and for the first time ever I bought a season ticket for the Beavs in football this year. Given how the Beavs played previously I always knew I could get tix for the game I wanted to see in Corvallis and did. Still I even traveled to see the Beavs in a few Bowl games including the Sun Bowl last year. I also got 2 season tix for Beaver gymnastics and WBB and plan to get one in Baseball because I am more worried about the other sports for the Beavs and hope they can stay competitive in this transition.
The predicament the Beavs are in is 100% due to the LA schools who felt that they could do better than the PAC12 and the remaining 10 presidents who over valued what a 10 team PAC12 could be worth. From those decisions and actions, ultimately all 10 remaining schools had to find a "respectable place" out of this as that George K Apple TV contract no matter how much blame you want to put on the other schools was not that. Six schools found safer havens that had guaranteed better value, the first of which who jumped Colorado was given a bonus to help destroy the PAC. UW & Oregon went on a discount to the Big10, but still already have a better situation than any of the other 8 schools. Stanford & Cal decided they were better off taking pennies on the dollar in the ACC than tie their fate with OSU and WSU.
For me it is time to support the team with a commitment because I too hope "they come out of this in a respectable place" but I am not naive enough to think the MWC is too good for us. I think both the MWC and WCC appreciate OSU being part of their conferences this year and I am sure the Big 12 appreciates getting OSU and Gold medalist Jade Carey in Gymnastics this year. The only way that OSU/WSU can show their value is to make sure we have the stands full and show our support. Excitement matters to these athletes and we have that opportunity to make a difference. Then maybe Theresa Gould and the OSU/WSU ADs and presidents will find a solution which may be better than the MWC, even if the PAC reincarnates in some reverse merger to preserve some history.
I am excited to see where the future will hold for the Beavs and refuse to act the victim to our "evil" cross state rivals. You want to compete against the best and our state now has that. We need to show the Beavers can belong like the Ducks . I attended the preseason Oregon State Oregon Volleyball game Saturday that had 2000+ Beaver fans rooting on the team to beat Oregon in this match that didn't count but meant so much to the fans and the Oregon State team as the Beavs won 3-1. That September 14th game at Reser will have similar emotion. It most likely will be the most watched Beaver football game this year and it is important that the Beavs show how much it means and make it competitive. Looking back with anger and dispair about what happenned won't get the Beavs a respectable place. Earning their respect will.
Man this is spot on Edward! My first game was the 1967 3-0 USC game. My son created the film Legend Of The Giant Killers!!! I moved back to Corvallis 2 years ago after a 40 year career in Southern California. I am all in on the BEAVS!! There is some optimism in the Valley for a lot of reasons!!! ALL OSU Fans need to lean in NOW and get behind these coaches and their players!! We have 2 of the best college coaches in the nation in Scott and Mitch!! I am optimistic Trent will have the BEAVS D looking a bit like the 2000 Fiesta Bowl D!! We need some offense, and we will be very competitive. If Gundy and Kyle D can coach the boys up on O look out!!!
