I would like to thank John for his kind words about me the grocery checker from Safeway West Linn. I am 68 years and 5 months. I love my job and customers very much. I think it important to state something I rarely share but in this case it is important to the background on all of this. I have been in recovery for nearly 35 years. My tag line at work is happy happy, happy happy. How else can you live your life (really). To the people of West Linn it has been a lifetime with you folks (24) years. I am not in a hurry to get to the other side. I will be fine on the other side (in case you wondered).

I find that my excitement for college football is basically gone. As an 65 year OSU fan I am still very bitter about everything! Being thrown in an MWC ash heap is and will always be as tragic as one can imagine! I have absolutely no respect for anything associated with the Ducks. I remember watching the arrogance of the Oregon leadership as they testified before the legislative committee. They couldn’t have care less. I completely reject their notion that presently they don’t get much state support. Everyone seems to forget the decades they depended on the state’s taxpayers.

I am rooting for the Beavers to come out of this in a respectable place, which is not the MWC.

People say get over it, that is not possible.

Gerald,

Here's my counter. I am a 69 year old OSU fan who has lived in Corvallis for 44 years and for the first time ever I bought a season ticket for the Beavs in football this year. Given how the Beavs played previously I always knew I could get tix for the game I wanted to see in Corvallis and did. Still I even traveled to see the Beavs in a few Bowl games including the Sun Bowl last year. I also got 2 season tix for Beaver gymnastics and WBB and plan to get one in Baseball because I am more worried about the other sports for the Beavs and hope they can stay competitive in this transition.

The predicament the Beavs are in is 100% due to the LA schools who felt that they could do better than the PAC12 and the remaining 10 presidents who over valued what a 10 team PAC12 could be worth. From those decisions and actions, ultimately all 10 remaining schools had to find a "respectable place" out of this as that George K Apple TV contract no matter how much blame you want to put on the other schools was not that. Six schools found safer havens that had guaranteed better value, the first of which who jumped Colorado was given a bonus to help destroy the PAC. UW & Oregon went on a discount to the Big10, but still already have a better situation than any of the other 8 schools. Stanford & Cal decided they were better off taking pennies on the dollar in the ACC than tie their fate with OSU and WSU.

For me it is time to support the team with a commitment because I too hope "they come out of this in a respectable place" but I am not naive enough to think the MWC is too good for us. I think both the MWC and WCC appreciate OSU being part of their conferences this year and I am sure the Big 12 appreciates getting OSU and Gold medalist Jade Carey in Gymnastics this year. The only way that OSU/WSU can show their value is to make sure we have the stands full and show our support. Excitement matters to these athletes and we have that opportunity to make a difference. Then maybe Theresa Gould and the OSU/WSU ADs and presidents will find a solution which may be better than the MWC, even if the PAC reincarnates in some reverse merger to preserve some history.

I am excited to see where the future will hold for the Beavs and refuse to act the victim to our "evil" cross state rivals. You want to compete against the best and our state now has that. We need to show the Beavers can belong like the Ducks . I attended the preseason Oregon State Oregon Volleyball game Saturday that had 2000+ Beaver fans rooting on the team to beat Oregon in this match that didn't count but meant so much to the fans and the Oregon State team as the Beavs won 3-1. That September 14th game at Reser will have similar emotion. It most likely will be the most watched Beaver football game this year and it is important that the Beavs show how much it means and make it competitive. Looking back with anger and dispair about what happenned won't get the Beavs a respectable place. Earning their respect will.

Go Beavs!

I moved back to Corvallis 2 years ago after a 40 year career in Southern California. I am all in on the BEAVS!! There is some optimism in the Valley for a lot of reasons!!! ALL OSU Fans need to lean in NOW and get behind these coaches and their players!! We have 2 of the best college coaches in the nation in Scott and Mitch!! I am optimistic Trent will have the BEAVS D looking a bit like the 2000 Fiesta Bowl D!! We need some offense, and we will be very competitive. If Gundy and Kyle D can coach the boys up on O look out!!!

I am glad I moved here from LA in 2002, so I don't have to hate the Ducks. In LA I rooted for UCLA, which I attended and taught for many years. And UCLA fans hated USC. But that always seemed silly, so I rooted for them too. And I am a fan of both Ducks and Beavers.

See my comment above...it's broken. Get outdoors, play more golf and pickle-ball or table tennis on Saturdays. Be very intentional about the teams you watch. I didn't watch Florida State vs Georgia Tech, I watched New Mexico and Montana State (it was a very enjoyable game with plenty of tension and ebb and flow). How about the job Bronco Mendenhal is doing and the fact that he chose to come back to New Mexico and help kids grow for the right reasons. That should be a huge story for you John :)

Norvell watched DJ enough to know what's up. DJ has a 5 star pedigree, a 5 star body, 5 star athleticism and a 5 star NFL arm, BUT, he has an Intel Pentium I processor, throws the ball at the feet of open WRs and ignores wide open targets. The QB clock says he should have entered the NFL draft last April, but he took a knee. Kinda obvious why at this point. I don't think another year at FSU will help.

I have mentioned this before: My friend in Eugene is a certified welding inspector. He worked at Autzen during the 2004 expansion. He saw some plans for an expansion in the future. The seats and rows on the opposite side as the roof side, would be built up and could make the place hold between 75,000 and 80,000. I have prayed for this to happen every season since the Chipster was there.

I am a huge supporter and donor to the U of O for just 61 years. I predict Oregon could have a super year, and I expect to see them compete for the BIG 10 title. I love Coach Lanning; he was a super pick . He can recruit, his players like him, and he and his family love Eugene. The culture he has built is rock solid. I am praying, no matter what happens this year, that Oregon will do an expansion now. They are in a BIG BOYS league now, and support for them is at an all-time high. I will see all games this year, as always, and cannot wait for sweet revenge against the baby beavers, and the dawgs from Seattle, in person at Autzen. I will also go down there for Chip Kelly and Ohio State, and Michigan State too. I plan to travel to Madison, Wisconsin, and also to Ann Arbor, Michigan, as they have been on my wish list for years. We have all the pieces, and I am beyond excited for the season to start. GO DUCKS

Nope, I will be in Duck gear sitting on the 50 yard line. Pat Reser was a 6th grade teacher of mine in Hillsboro, Or. in 1963. Yes, that Reser. She told me her husband made potato salad. I still buy Reser products made in Beaverton. Pat recently gave only $20 million to the city of Beaverton for an arts building. She was a super teacher. She and her late husband, Al, are life long Beavers. Both very high quality people, to say the least. I am almost 73, so she has to be in her 90s. Do you think it will really be a 75,000 type expansion, or more a 5,000 to 10,000 seat expansion to around 60,000 to 65,000, but with the new seats high dollar donation seats similar to what was done in the 2001 expansion?

The expansion was in 2004. I was told it could go to 80,000, to fill out the bowl completely. This would add about 20,000 seats. Go Ducks!

Agree with Scholz on stadium expansion. Tap the brakes a bit until the Big Ten honeymoon has passed, and analyze how much effect a fully televised schedule has on ticket demand, especially given the multiple TV network options that arrive this season. Study the population demographics? Are ticket buyers starting to age away which seems to be the case across all conferences. Do newer Oregon residents want to see the Ducks in person? Is there an inflection point on ticket and concession prices that will reduce demand, especially if more seats mean buyers can avoid buying season tickets? Will more seats impact donors who may no longer feel they need to donate to get reasonably good seats? Do you want to add debt payments for construction when new revenue from the Big Ten may be needed elsewhere in athletics - especially "player salaries"? And so on...

The trend regarding stadium renovations is to offer more amenities, not more seats. But, if Oregon opts to increase the capacity of Autzen, then an expansion of I-5 better be included in the budget.

13 of DJ Uiagalelei's 19 completions were thrown 5 yards or less down the field. Was that DJ's view of the field, or the O-coord's decision?

To balance that observation a bit, remember pre-NFL-draft when Nix was criticized as a dink and dunk artist as the reason for his high completion percentage. Got quite a few W's with that approach.

Dope sales in Michigan vs California? Every state that borders Cali has legal dope. A buyer doesn't have to cross the border into Cali. That is not true of Michigan border states. That's also one of the reasons sales in Colorado is high.

We saw last year with DJU at Oregon State and a QB friendly HC, that despite his very favorable size and athleticism that DJU has a low football IQ and cannot read defenses accurately or quickly enough to find the open receiver. This makes him prone to interceptions and sacks. His best play is usually to run, because of his size and speed. A move to FSU was not going to change any of this. He has reached his ceiling, unfortunately

I was trying to think of a college QB who rode his HS bona fides further in his college career than DJ. None came to mind. As a Duck fan, I certainly did not fear his abilities in last year's CW. Big time fanfare when he came out of HS and went to Clemson. A fair amount of hoopla when he transferred to the Beavs. This past offseason when it came out that he was transferring again, I asked "Who?"
