Well played Real Rich; what a lovely and informative response, and I learned finally how the name change developed. We saw more of the Elway - Puckett era, but followed John Brodie with the 49ERs and then golf (when he informed his wife he was going to play on the tour, she responded: "My God, John, you are going to live your whole life …

I was not aware of the interim change in Cardinal. I was, and still am, in love with the Leland Stanford Junior Marching Band( I attended a USC game in the 80s with two highlights: when USC Trojan band marched on the field, the welcoming yell was "Big Rubber Band", and then the Stanford band marched on with hat, tie, blazer, and surfing jams, led by their seven foot bandleader in a full wetsuit!-wonderful times). Thanks for your kind letter, offsetting fouls, repeat second down. Best, Charlie
Great stuff, Charlie. What a fantastic story about Brodie's wife! She had it right! Love the "Big Rubber Band" welcoming yell and I did not know about that. I'm saddened about the probable end of that great Stanford/USC rivalry...I'll never forget Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh exchanging "what's your deal?"
Well played, Charlie - another first down and ten. - Rich.
