Thank you. I figured so but glad to know. I wish women’s gymnastics got more attention nationally too & not just for Olympics every 4 years. Beavs starting out well against ND.
Let me know if you need photo coverage John (I'm no professional but with modern technology, can snap a picture or two when I attend when the weather warms up, or if you need some spot coverage or podcast analyst). I Like to give back to the game and OSU that has been so good to me :)
Beavs lost a tough one last night to USC, 2-1. Pitching was fine. But USC pitching (great curve balls) just shut down the offense. I am not used to watching OSU struggle at the plate!
It happens Brian, it's a tough conference and First Pitch Friday is usually the toughest day going against a string of conference opponent #1 pitchers. Happens :)
I watched the game. They gave up 2 runs. Aiden May had a better outing than previously and gave up 1 run in 4 innings. Yes, Bridger Holmes was wild with his side arm which kept sailing wide and left. They gave up a few walks. I go by the score and the team era for the game which was 2.16. This is not the major leagues (though the Rockies just gave up 16 runs to the AZ Cardinals, 14 in one inning)
Hard for me to see that Brink is the best Stanford player after what strong post players did to her in the Pac 12 championships. More accurately, maybe, it's hard for me to see her college success translating to the WNBA, where they are all big, strong, and good. Guess I'll find out next year.
Maybe we'll get to see Ms. Brink drop another f-bomb on an official on the big video screen, as she did in the Iowa State game when they had the gall to foul her out! Totally classless, as were her derogatory remarks toward OSU players in their Pac-12 Tournament game, overheard by numerous courtside observers.
I've also heard her parents are a true joy to sit by during a game too.
I think, as good as she has been, the Brink show has run its course. Kiki Iriafen is the best all-round player on the Stanford team. And Cameron’s temperament is getting to be a little more of a factor. I wish them luck, though!
I found it strange that her parents were not decked out in Stanford gear/colors. Also noticed that Brink was a bit of a attention grabber after she fouled out and her teammates were not receptive to her. The f word did not make an impression as much as wondering how her teammates really feel about her and what they put up with.
This Duck says that Scott Rueck may be the best coach of any sport in Pac 12. Maybe the Utah gymnastics coach? Tara V is right up there but she recruits five stars from the glitter of Stanford and the Bay Area. Lloyd at AZ is great and is also getting the best of athletes. But his teams strike out before Sweet 16.
Rueck talks lesser athletes into going to a small town in the Pacific Northwest, where he molds them into terrific teams. He has an amazing freshman class—who believed in him enough to go the Corvallis after a 4-14 conference season.
And now they are in the Elite 8 again.
I wonder what Rueck would do if he had the star power of Arizona or glitz of an LA school.
I have a theory as to why the women's game is becoming so popular. The skill level is over the top plus they follow the rules. Traveling is called and double dribbles are called so they do it less. The men's game is becoming a walking show!
I’m glad OSU women won. But it was NOT a ‘nice win’. It was, unfortunately, a TAINTED win. Why? Because Notre Dame star freshman Hannah Hidalgo was forced by refs to remove her nose ring mid-game and result was her missing about 4min time in 2nd quarter. This after Hannah wore nose ring all year long without issue. Hannah averaged about 23 pts per game, but tonight only 10 (a season low). Was that due to being thrown off her game as Notre Dame bench had to pull out the pliers on the fly, to yank ring out of her nose? Weird stuff there.
Well, that’s debatable. Have you checked in w/ any ND fans? Technically Hannah was out of rules but sort of bush league to sideline opponents best player in biggest game of year for what I see as jaywalking
I hate it when city leaders gussy up an area, move out the vagrants, to impress visitors and then let it go back to dystopian filth after the visitors leave. San Francisco also did this for the Chinese delegation in town for national level talks. The question is obvious: if you can clean up an area for a week, why can't you keep it clean year around? That is just lazy or more likely. ideologically corrupted, city officials.
Or maybe it is because short term “cleanups” are easy while real solutions for complex issues like homelessness, mental health and addiction are very difficult.
Sure, but there is zero progress on that front. Any progress is appreciated. Put as much energy into solving the problem as applying the one day makeup and being a fake
Well, not to turn this sports forum into a social issues one, but I see Portland working hard on this. They are creating new shelter sites that include resources and supervision. The Safe Rest Village near me is expanding from 60 tiny homes to 100. The City is trying to ban camping but has been thwarted so far by the courts. The Governor is investing heavily in changing the situation. It will be a lot of work, and will take time, but I see changes happening. No more from me on this topic. I wish you well.
You forgot to mention the ridiculous amount of money being spent. A little over a decade ago when the property taxes hit $666 dollars as a monthly average I had a revelation and desire to get the hell out.
JC, Comment on this thesis maybe --for Monday Q/A. WOMEN'S SPORTS in general are more interesting to watch than men's because there is more emphasis on skill than sheer physical prowess. (I like women's tennis much more than the men's side at WImbledon).. I think women's basketball is another example as well.)
Go Beavs! BTW, John do you follow college baseball at all? Beavs #2 in country now & much more.
Yes. Will be all over that soon.
Thank you. I figured so but glad to know. I wish women’s gymnastics got more attention nationally too & not just for Olympics every 4 years. Beavs starting out well against ND.
I have big plans for baseball coverage.
That’s exciting. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do with it.

Pitching fine? Someone didn't watch the game

It's good to see women getting their due...they deserve every moment. 'Bout damn time, eh?
Fun tournament. Portland hosts the Final Four in 2030.
Will definitely be at that one :)
That should be fun...and a great opportunity to showcase Portland.

JC, Cameron Brink actually graduated from Mountainside HS. She moved up the hill from Southridge for her senior year. She’s a great talent!
You are correct. I amended that to "Beaverton"...
But a little bit of an attitude!!!
Especially when she gets a “foul” called on her. !!!
What a fun read! It was a great tour John…thank you.
What a great scene for a basketball junkie. Would be fun to be there
GO DAWGS
To me Brink looked disinterested in the previous game. Her teammates bailed her out.

The outcome of the game seems to confirm what I have thought all along. Some good players but not a team to make it out of the 16.
I’d heard similar stories of when she played in high school. Great player though, and I wish her well.
Wonder if Brink will be giving a lot of “F-yous” to the refs in this tourney. She’s a terrible sport!!

Love it that Portland has this opportunity and will look forward to your coverage.
But hey!…the win of the day? Beavs!!! On to the Elite 8! 🧡🌟🖤🌟🧡🌟🖤
GO BEAVS!!! Nice win !!!

You win the award for dumbest comment of the year so far

Had NOTHING to do with the outcome of the game. So it’s still the dumbest comment of the year

All the credit goes to the way the Beavs D played her
And Go NC ST and Gonzaga !

Lazy. Ideologically corrupted. You forgot “incompetent.”
Got me! I left that one out. Good catch

Ms Brink may unload on an official. Hopefully there won't be some dufus cruising by and unloading the N-word at one of the teams.
