SALT LAKE CITY — Utah scored on a 70-yard touchdown pass on the first offensive snap of its season and then got smothering defense to walk off winners on Thursday night.

Final: Utah 24, Florida 11.

The Utes were without star quarterback Cam Rising (knee). It didn’t matter much early, as back-up Bryson Barnes connected with Money Parks on a TD pass on the offense’s first play.

I wrote a behind-the-scenes column off the game. Photographer Rob Gray was on the scene with me at Rice-Eccles Stadium and captured all the action.

SALT LAKE CITY — They hawked 2,200 standing-room-only tickets for Thursday’s football game here. Never before have so many people climbed the steps of Rice-Eccles Stadium to watch an event. The new attendance record: 53,644. The final score: Utah 24, Florida 11.
