Photo Gallery: Ohio State beats Notre Dame in CFP title game
Buckeyes vs. Irish -- in photos.
ATLANTA — Ohio State won the first-ever College Football Playoff 12-team national championship with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame on Monday.
The Buckeyes raced to a 31-7 lead in the third quarter, and held off a late Irish rally to capture the first-ever 12-team playoff crown.
I was on the scene at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and wrote a column about Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. It was a full-circle moment for Kelly, who came up empty in the BCS championship game in 2011 as the coach at Oregon.
Photographer Naji Saker was at the stadium.
