Canzano: Ohio State's title win gives Chip Kelly a full-circle moment
The Buckeyes win the CFP title with a victory over Notre Dame.
ATLANTA — The final seconds ticked off the clock at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday night and the door to the Ohio State coaching box popped open.
Chip Kelly led the post-game parade to the field.
The Buckeyes beat Notre Dame 34-23 to complete a dominant four-game sweep through the College Football Playoff bracket. They’re the undisputed national champions. And here came Kelly, the mercenary offensive coordinator, chewing up a few final yards as he rumbled down the hallway.
Kelly wore an Ohio State baseball cap and held a white marker pen between his teeth. He was stumbling toward the elevator while wrestling with the straps of his black backpack. The elastic band on one leg of his sweatpants — the left one — was pulled up high, exposing his shin, calf, and a white tube sock.
Kelly looked like a kid headed out the door in the morning, late for the school bus.
He saw me down the way and shouted: “Yo!!”
