Cousinard and Dante. To end their Oregon careers with performances that broke PAC12 legendary records (ie Lou Alcinder's) and both have their career high scoring games in this tourney after leading the Ducks to the last PAC12 tourney championship ever. Wow! What warriors. Proud to be Ducks.
That said its hard for two guys to carry a team. Game was lost when Shelstad got hurt.
A picture tells a thousand words- thank you Emma for capturing the game with your amazing pictures. What a game, and effort, by Couisnard and Dante - combining for 60 points out of 73. That says it all. I think you could tell the depleted team was tired. I’m proud of them, the coaches, and their accomplishments; I mean after all, they weren’t expected to win the P12 conference championship or the first round, and they did. Thanks for covering the game John.
Your photographers throughout the conference and now the NCAA Men’s and Women’s tournaments have been top notch.
It’s always disappointing to lose. The Duck’s tournament run was unexpected, at least for me. I had written them off in mid February. Obviously, I should have had more faith in Altman’s coaching and the players character. Tired legs were their undoing in the final OT. Altman, with a depleted bench, had no option but to “Dance with the one(s) who brung ya!”
Proud of the team. Thanks for a fun ride. Go Ducks!
If Creighton hit their threes early, there would have been no double OT. They were flat out cold in the first half, and really, most of the game.
Couisnard and Dante had to do just about everything and were exhausted. When is a choke hold on Jermaine not a foul? No help from the rest of the team. I feel bad for the Shelstad and his ankle. That really sucks.
Officiating was favorable toward Creighton (two early Couisnard first half fouls to take a guy out; no foul shots for Oregon until late in the game?). Come on NCAA… It turned out to be One Shining Moment: The Hunger Games.
And finally, Orange is right (yikes). You pull Dante when you’re up 4 in regulation. I’m still pissed about it. With all the chips stacked against the Ducks, it could have been Oregon in the Sweet Sixteen with better foul shooters. OT should have never happened.
The Ducks had the game won at the end of regulation and choked it away. They had the ball with 34 seconds left, up by 4, in control. You miss the shot, fine, then the next possession, it unraveled. Have Dante inbound the ball, if not, then don't inbound it to him, he's the worst free throw shooter on the floor and everybody knew that, that's basic basketball. He missed the front end and it gave CU a chance. It never should have gone to OT.
They needed Shelstad at the end of the game. Biggest Creighton play, fouling Shelstad by stepping on his ankle with 4:45 left and Oregon up 3. Sad it fell on the two best players shoulders to do even more than they had ever done before to win this game. Keep in mind those 2 scored EVERY SINGLE OREGON POINT in the 2nd half and both OTs except Traceys 2 pt put back on Kwame Evans airball with 37 second left in the 1st OT. So Dante missed his FT but he made all 4 in the two OTs and scored 28 with 20 rebounds, 2 blocks. So Cousinard missed his bunny at the end but scored a monster 3 at the end of the 1st OT in a game where he scored 32, 8 rebounds, 3assists, 2 blocks in only 29 minutes.
What else can you ask of those 2? How can anyone say Altman could of coached better considering what a genious he was to get the 11 seeded Ducks into the tourney and beat a higher seeded South Carolina and then play with a 3 seeded Creighton to a draw for 45 minutes, last 10 minutes without his 3rd best player. Come ON!!!! So easy to be a Sunday morning coach.
Thank you Jermaine, N'Fale, and Dana and the rest of your crew for giving us this faboulous run. I was there in Eugene when Dana won those last two games of his first season over McDermott and Creighton for the CBI championship which was a masterful coaching job then. Now to get the Ducks to play like they did these last 5 games this year, Dana is truly a HOF coach.
Spot on. Orange hates the Ducks so his/her comments are always negative regarding the Ducks. The game should have not gone to OT, but for the Ducks to even get to that point is amazing considering how depleted the team is because of injuries. It was a great run and so much fun. Altman is an awesome coach.
What more can you ask? When you have the most expensive roster in CBB and get bounced outta the tournament after 1 game, people want answers for the constant underachievement. The golf clap isn't gonna cut it anymore.
So you know the Duck payroll is more than every other CBB roster in the country. Could you provide some "sunshine" on those facts to enlighten the rest of us? Still whatever they paid Jermaine and N'Faly the last 5 games, it was a pretty sound investment.
LOLOLOL...hey captain of the Titanic...how did OSU do in the tournament??? Oh that's right...8.7 million per year gets you dead last in the Pac 12. Enjoy it Orange pooper scooper.
And the Ducks capture the Mr and Mrs Underachievement Award year after year. Phil Knight's spent an unprecedented amount of money on duck sports. He's leveraged his Nike influence everywhere possible and literally buys 4 and 5 star kids thru NIL for what? The Ducks should have a ring in football, MBB, WBB and probably baseball too. Yet after every season, often times following a Duck choke, it's "We're so proud of the our Ducks, wait til next year". And here we are again. That's called Karma.
I felt bad for Dante in that situation. You are correct, have your worst free throw shooter inbound the ball so he can't be fouled. Basic coaching. I doubt that went the way Altman wanted it to go. The Ducks seemed a little panicky there and all the way to the end. Cousinard could have won it with the 12 ft floater at the buzzer, but came up short. Probably exhausted which causes short shots. Creighton was calm and collected. I have not seen them this year. That is a very balanced team, inside and out.
That about sums it up, unfortunately. Very, very reminiscent of the ending of the FAU vs Northwestern game. Both teams had the games won and choked it away, spit the bit, whatever...but hey, that's what makes March Madness great.
That was the freshman mistake. Altman was beside himself over that one. He drew up an inbounds play to get the ball into one of the better free throw shooters. Creighton knew that and purposely left Dante open so they could foul him
The inbound to Dante right before regulation was a defining moment of game. Was it a Freshman on baseline that took ball from ref before Ducks were set? I think that missed 1-1 was also the 1st free throws Ducks took all night. Altman had his head in hands after Dante accepted in bounds pass and was immediately fouled.
Good run by Ducks, I’m a UW fan and was totally invested in Oregon winning last night ;)
Not having Shelstad for the two overtime's was the deciding factor. Not sure if they had pulled out the win, how they would have gone forward in the tournament with their point guard sidelined. That being said, super proud of the Ducks for being able to win the games that got them to this point. Dante & Couisard will be greatly missed next year. So many teams didn’t even make the tournament, so…. hard to say geez we would have won if this or that had been done. Thanks for a great season Oregon💚💛
This is the first Oregon Ducks game I watched from beginning to end and got the entire picture. Wow, is that team one-dimensional! It is a one-trick pony with Dante and Couisnard running the high pick and roll over and over again. It works amazingly well considering it is so predictable, attesting to their skills. Eventually Creighton adjusted and took that play away and then the Ducks were stuck since the other three on the court did nothing the entire game. I did not realize how thin the Ducks team is until last night. Altman got all he could out of this limited team and should be commended.
Losing Shelstad was bad. He was the only scoring option beyond the Big 2 - not to mention the point guard. I for one give this team props for continuing to fight. And Coach Altman: stay right where you are, please.
Great photos—Emma did a good job capturing the game in stills. The Ducks did a stellar job getting this far given injuries and limited roster. There is no shame or regret in losing to a deeper foe like Creighton.
Such a great game to watch. Nobody is better at getting the most out of a bad situation than Altman has done having had so many injured players. The players and coaches should feel proud of what they accomplished. I am a very proud fan.
I wouldn’t trade Dana for any other coach - but where was our inbound play at the end to get it into the hands of our best free throw shooters? I know they were gassed - but none of our better shooters even moved to get open. I’m sure Dana is losing sleep on not calling a timeout to get the inbound pass to one of our better % foul shooters. The clock always strikes midnight for the Cinderella’s in OT.
Altman should have had Dante inbound the ball at the end of regulation. That would have takin him out of the equation for being fouled. The game was lost there.
They did themselves, their school and the old PAC-12 proud! Well done, Ducks!

Nice run - no shame
GO DAWGS

Several observations about last night:

Being in your case the beavers out of a power conference " That's called karma"
Your bitterness and jealousy is palpable. What a sad and pathetic way to live your life.
I felt bad for Dante in that situation. You are correct, have your worst free throw shooter inbound the ball so he can't be fouled. Basic coaching. I doubt that went the way Altman wanted it to go. Monday morning quarterback.🤦♂️. The Ducks had a great run and went further this year than anyone expected
Thanks captain obvious.
So bitter 🤣
Yep

Wow where did all the grinches come from? Sore winner's and losers. Happy for the ducks, went out strong. Go lady Beavs!!
Such a great game to watch. Nobody is better at getting the most out of a bad situation than Altman has done having had so many injured players. The players and coaches should feel proud of what they accomplished. I am a very proud fan.
Amazed that the two could almost pull it off. It was a good run, thanks for the $$.
Go Beavs

I asked the same question. Dante should have been subbed out before the throw-in.
Altman should have had Dante inbound the ball at the end of regulation. That would have takin him out of the equation for being fouled. The game was lost there.
