The NBA, as a whole, needs reworking. But the Blazers are definitely a dumpster fire. Until the team is sold to a bonafide owner, like Phil Knight, or someone who gives a damn, the product isn’t worth watching, no matter what network or service. TV is just the start. Improve the product. Let’s go with that.

Well beyond negative. Paul's will was not vague. It left clear instructions to methodically liquidate his assets and disperse the proceeds to his chosen causes. She has selectively done that, holding on to the estate assets while collecting a hefty custodians fee which runs in many millions per year.

Stop! Phil Knight is 86 yrs old. Not what you're looking for in a new owner.

Aren't we at a point with the Blazers and Jody Allen that screams "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" You have a city that loves the Blazers and Ms Allen unable to free her hostage. Phil Knight is in the wings ready to reinvigorate a team and city while she sits on the drain watching the potential of the team go down the sewer. It is time for Jody Allen to be gracious and think about what she is doing to the city. It is time for her to get her hands off the throat of a franchise and allow it to be free.

Regarding ROOT Sports;

As a NW sports fan way down here in Klamath Falls, ROOT has been my connection for watching Kraken (most games), Mariners (all the time), and TrailBlazers (not so much)

So much for that…

Until the Blazers put a quality produce on the court this really goes nowhere

I have no idea who is even on this team anymore.

I cancelled Comcast, even got FUBO for Root Sports. I found that I really didn't watch - and so I bailed on it as well. Paying another $20 over other streaming options got old.

There used to be some players that were well involved in the community, were fan favorites, etc. Ever since the Blazers bid Wes Mathews goodbye I started to lose interest.

I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a Blazer shirt or logo on anything where I live in the southern Willamete Valley. Haven’t had a conversation with any of my sports friends about them either. That wasn’t always the case. If the franchise disappeared next week not sure if many here would even notice.

Great analysis - totally agree on kolde. The guy’s been a total pain in the ass for both the Hawks and the Blazers. Shoulda been him instead of Paul.

Yep. “Bumblin Bert” has done so much damage over the years to the Blazers and Seahawks. Can’t believe he’s still allowed to be involved in these franchises.

Love the "Bowie over Jordan" reference. I haven't been a Trailblazer fan for 30 years (since the Clyde-the-Glide-Duckworth era) and that 1984 draft decision still gnaws at me. Bowie was known to have bad knees in college at Kentucky. Michael Jordan was known to have the athletic potential to be the GOAT (his competitive drive was still not well known). Most of us Trailblazers fans, while missing the center dominance of Bill Walton, wanted Jordan. Those who say they know better took Bowie. Boom! And the die was cast for a terrible franchise future (the massive screw up on Olajuwon was still years away). Will the Blazers ever get it right again like in 1977?!

I am a T-Wolves fan with my 30+ years living in the Minneapolis market and now I have Ant, who is the best pure athlete, most competitive and joyful, since Michael J. I don't know if he reaches Jordan's heights (no wingman like Scottie Pippen, yet; KAT is not it), but he sure is fun to watch

And I got the last laugh on that stupid Bowie pick. I moved to Chicago in 1990 and got to experience the great joy of being a Jordan fan

Clyde and Jordan instead of Pippen and Jordan. I could see Clyde being even more effective with Jordan than Pippen as Clyde was more of playmaker.

I have no use for the Blazers and very little for the NBA for that matter; however, this is a good column for all Oregonians that yearn for their team back, including the ability to watch it at home. Believe me, Boise and Seattle have zero interest in watching the Blazers - I mean ZERO...zip...nada. The whole ROOT business strategy was flawed from the beginning. John, if you and Blazers' fans really believe this is a step in the right direction - a "win" for the Blazers franchise - that's good enough for me. I wish everyone involved the best...for me, however...yawn...until Jody and Kolde are out of sight.

As a Mariners fan who doesn't follow the NBA, I'm wondering how much longer Root Sports will survive and what it will mean to the team since they own a large % of it. But overall, I'm happy with teams moving to over the air channels. Seems likely the Mariners will end up there before long as well. Root Sports and the Pac 12 Network were the main reasons I still have Comcast, so it looks like I can finally cut the cord in the near future

Mariners have hinted that 2025 may be their last year on ROOT and they may scrap the channel all together.

That would be an interesting move, since the Mariners recently purchased the part of ROOT they didn't already own. They already have good carriage arrangements with most cable/satellite systems, so they would be taking quite a gamble.

I was a big Blazer supporter and season ticket holder when Clyde and the boys lost two NBA finals, one to Detroit and one to Michael Jordan. Rick Adelman was a good coach. The glass palace was always full, the crowd very loud, and Portland had a good team. Since Paul Allen passed, this current Blazer organization is like a train wreck. Billips is a terrible coach. Jody Allen does not know football from basketball. She never went to Blazer games when her brother was still alive. She makes big money as long as she does not sell the team. Unless you are a moron or just plain ignorant, you do not turn down Phil Knight and his $2 billion dollar offer for the team, made two years ago. I have not watched a Blazer game in several years. My comcast is mainly for football, both college and pro. NBA basketball is not very good before the play-offs start in April. GO DUCKS

I think an ownership group with Phil Knight would be great as he is getting up there in age, so it would be nice to have others involved. His reported ~$2 billion offer was low though. I think when the Blazers sell, it will be for over $3 billion.

When Phil Knight made the offer , two years ago, 2 billion was not low. The slippers(LA Clippers) were bought for 3 billion a few years ago by a microsoft guy named Steve Balmer. Mr. Knight is the most powerful man in sports, and he certainly knows more about huge business than you or me. I met him in Eugene many years ago when he was running cross country for the Ducks. Read SHOE DOG written by him if you are interested in Nike and/or the Ducks. His 2 billion offer was made by he and a partner from LA. Unless a person is not smart, or is ignorant, turning down Phil Knight is beyond stupid. Ask Mario Cristobal (sub super Mario) GO DUCKS

Interesting that the current problems for the Blazers can be traced to reliance on a single personality who died without properly planning the transition. Phil Knight is 86 years old and once again you would be dealing with one person and later likely his estate. Perhaps the team would be better off with a consortium of owners with roots in the area rather than a single billionaire. Oregon has also put all of its eggs in one basket as well. If it wasn't for Phil Knight and his billions Oregon's fortunes would be the same as OSUs. Small market way out west.

Resident Oz LOL! And we all learned what a shyster the Great Oz was…

Our household hasn’t tuned into a Blazer game in years. My best memories was back in early 90’s when I was given tickets to a few games when I was single mom. I took my daughter to the games, we sat in the upper rows behind the hoop at Memorial Coliseum, ate a hotdog, had popcorn and I could even afford to buy her a sweatshirt! Those were the days my friend. Unfortunately so many pro sports, and even college sports, in addition to our local winter sports are so expensive for families to participate in.

The related story of interest here is the Mariners ownership of ROOT sports and the failing regional sports network model. The Blazers and Kraken leaving ROOT have hurt the Mariners. I've seen reporting that this is hindering the Mariners ability to spend money on their roster because they aren't making what they planned from it.

J C, The real word for this is. GREED by everyone involved, which is typical of the front office of the Blazers. Screw the fans, in raising prices, selecting a BAD COACH (this will not change) who cannot Coach and put any kind of team together. Pathetic all away around !!!!!

No matter where they end up, it is still a VERY BAD SHOW TO WATCH, and I will not be interested.
