As always your column about Jack leaves me in tears and takes me back to another brave teen, my sister, who died of bone cancer at age 15. And yes there are times in the past 68 years where I think about what good in the world she could have done. Pretty sure she would have made an impact in medicine. Cancer sucks.

Yes, cancer sucks!

The wife is wondering why I’m sitting here crying. She will be soon also. Thank you John and thanks to Jack for being an inspiration.

Thank you — and so many others — for reading.

Pass the Kleenex. To me, as a cancer survivor, nothing gets to me as much as kids with cancer.

A reminder with purpose. Beauty in the prose. Life in the dream. May his memory always be for a blessing

I'm pretty sure I needed to read your article today. I think there are many of us who needed to be reminded how life is so fragile and always so short. Thank you, John, for sharing Jack's story yet again.

He’s in heaven now, and he’s not in pain, and he’s smiling down at mom.

I’m sitting in a parking lot at the Santa Clara Marriott, right next to Levi’s Stadium as my 17 year old daughter is inside taking the SAT. I have tears streaming down my face once again reading about Jack. Only a parent can truly

understand the pain and hope of this story. More LEGO’s from me this year. Thanks John for reminding us of this story every year. The tears keep coming.

Ya know...jack had potential...he had excellent throwing form. back, down, through.

Damn Cancer! it's taken 90% of my family in various forms.

I think he’d have been a really good high school pitcher and maybe pitched in college.

I could barely make it through the movie Hamnet about grieving parents over the loss of a child and imagining what the child would be like years later. This is so similar to me but not a movie...a local family dealing with this issue. Thanks for sharing. I hope if helps helps the family to know so many are grieving the loss of their child...

This story moves me every year. He has made a big difference in such a short life. Thanks for giving us a chance to honor him in a small way, John.

Thanks for again tugging at the heartstrings with the story about Jack Schumacher. I'm glad you will never quit going back to it....worth it every time someone reads it, for the 1st or umpteenth time.

Think it’s such a powerful reminder

John, don't stop writing about Jack. I need a good cry this time of year.
