Oh my my you really touched my heartstrings today. My baby girl (30 years old) got married last Saturday and according to her, it was “magical”. Last year her brother got married too. Love every moment with your girls! It goes fast. Keep being the great Dad you are…there will be so many more treasured moments!
Four kids, same experience. Wife was raised by a single mom in the depths of Philadelphia. I got to teach her to drive (still married, 53 years), but the magic moment was teaching her to ride a bike and watching her come back smiling. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this special moment with Soji, and the memories of Dakota and Zia on their first bike ride sans the training wheels. Brought back memories from 34 years ago when my daughter was learning to ride a bike, and I’m sure the same memories for many of the readers. You’re a great dad, and Anna a great mom to your girls. They too will cherish these memory making moments ♥️ Hope Anna has a wonderful visit with her dad, and safe travels. Way to enjoy life Canzano family!
Nothing like an unexpected cry with my coffee this morning! As an empty-nester dad to daughters myself, this one hit me right in the feelers. Thanks John…now my girls are each going to get a phone call from Dad today!!
Beautifully written, thank you John. This tugs at my heartstrings as I have an 8 year old daughter who has been nothing short of pure joy and a persistent self challenger whom I am deeply grateful for. Thank you for all of the poignant essays over the years.
What a great column, John! Being a Dad of a 12 year old daughter and a 14 year old daughter it brought back some great memories and made me think about the milestones to come.
I remember taking my daughter to the park to ride without training wheels like it was yesterday. Friday she received her diploma from WSU in the mail. Man, time flies...
Canzano: Pedaling through a childhood
Probably my favorite piece you have written.. 1a or 1b to the Shonz piece

Very sweet. Brings back my own memories. Thank you for being a good father. We need a lot more of those in this country of ours.

My goodness.
These columns are gifts to, and will be cherished by, your immediate and extended family (families?) forever.

Wonderful story, John. The video shows so much of her confidence and your love, which will serve her well through life.
Very touching. My next older brother taught me. I think he hoped I would crash. Lol!!
Nicely done. Showing your vulnerability is a sign of strength.
