I like your picks here John...pretty agree with not only winners but the spread...I think the Ducks might actually be a double digit winner

Oregon lost KT but is much better at QB and healthier and more experienced at LB. UCLA has a better front seven but not as good on O Line...

Hmmm....yeah...do you mean he is light years better than he was last year? I think he is better than he was last year but not "light years" better. He is most definitely not better than Bo Nix. They are pretty close right now in overall performance with the Georgia game being the exception but that was Bo first game with his offense against one of the best Defenses in the country in a difficult environment. I consider that position a wash.

I meant to say better than last year. DTR is much improved. "He is most definitely not better than Bo Nix" He might be. In every passing category, minus total passing yards, DTR is superior. Bo has him beat by 16 yards in passing yards BTW.

Completion %

DTR - 74.8

Bo - 70.4

Yards

DTR - 1,510

Bo - 1,526

DTR - 9.3

Bo - 8.2

DTR - 180.6

Bo - 157.4

WOW, Oregon covers? I love my ducks, and I think they win. But UCLA will make this razor close.

John if they do, I am gifting a subscription in celebration of your clairvoyance.

Spot on Pedro. Chip's last trip to Autzen the Ducks won by 3. This one could be that close.

John-First thanks for picking Oregon so that way you don't jinx the Bru1ns. Let's do a quick recap from your picks with the Bru1ns. Washington will beat the Bru1ns. Hmmmm. Then Utah will beat the Bru1nns. Hmmmm. So let's get away from us homers and listen to what people outside of Oregon and California had to say. Kyle Whittingham-Most physical UCLA team he has ever played against. Fast, athletic and long. Joel Klatt-Never saw any team, not even Ohio State push around Utah like UCLA did. I know you don't like comparing who played who but outside of Georgia, Oregon has not seen a team as deep as UCLA is. Final score John-UCLA 38-35. Count on it!

UCLA has no advantages anywhere on the field with the possible exception of Chip Kelly. First road game in a difficult environment against a good team. Oregon has a definite talent advantage on both lines of scrimmage and overall at receiver. UCLA is physical but so is Oregon....

*USC HASN'T recruited well on DLine or OLine in years.

The o-line and d-line depth advantage Oregon has over every PAC-12 school is wide. UCLA hasn't been tested in a road game all year. Don't act surprised when Oregon dominates both lines of scrimmage. Utah and USC have porous defenses this year. So it's not like Utah is some juggernaut this year, just look at the numbers they given up to USC and UCLA. And USC has recruited well on DLine or Oline in years. Their defense when not getting turnovers, is getting marched up and down the field. Even OSU won the LOS battle against USC.

Well, we will see tomorrow. As for your take, I agree that Oregon D-Line is better than UCLAs, but our offensive line is as good as or better than Oregon's. Why? We have 3 5th year players who open holes for the BEST running back in the PAC 12 and that won't be any different facing your D-Line! I don't give a rip about the university of spoiled children so not sure why you even brought that up:) Anyway good luck to you and the Ducks tomorrow as you're going to be facing the best team you have played since Georgia!

Remind me, who the best OLine in the PAC 12 is again? UCLA played well, but Oregon IS the best team in the PAC 12.

Nice work, John… Bruins win 42 to 36

Your bicycle story reminds me as a kid I also use to ride on the wrong side until one day

riding to Cub Scouts I swerved to avoid some broken glass...Pow, next thing I know I'm laying in

the ditch with a few scratches but the bike was totaled.

Some how I think that also could be a precursor to the rest of season.

Yikes! I don’t know if I’ve ever heard more wishful lip flapping. Let’s all meet up here AFTER the game. The best team WILL win.

Go Bruins!!!

Your picks are well-reasoned and rational. I was enjoying your “against traffic” metaphor until I got hit in the back of my gray matter by an imaginary bus. 🤔🤔🤔

Solid picks this week, John. Does Stanford ever have a home field advantage? I don't know if there's a less enthusiastic fanbase than Stanford unless it's UCLA.

I wonder which team will suffer more if there is much rain Saturday?

It's a wonder you lived to see the driving years riding a bike into Hecker Pass traffic (thankfully, there is a bike/walking path now). Wonder about UCLA's "big game" experience and weather. I still think UCLA pulls out the win. Great weekend for sports!!

I hate to say it, but in a game this big, I don't trust Nix all that much. If the Ducks can score early anf often, then Ducks by 10 or more, in a close one? Bruins... final? UCLA 31, OREGON 28

I read earlier that the Big 12 may be getting TV locked in sooner than the Pac, ESPN/FOX..... How will that work ? Will they try and get the 4 pac teams to get that 4th window? Espn, Fox seems to hold all the cards

UCLA has looked pretty good to me making the Oregon game hard to call. Outside of that, I agree. Arizona State and Washington should win on the road. Anything else would definitely be an upset.

I'd take Oregon 42-35.

With regard to my alma mater, you nailed it on the head. Probably a Washington victory but also one that goes down to the wire, as Cal games are wont to do when they play their brand of defensive slogging. But it's Pac-12 after dark, so who knows?

Wow, big shock the homer Canzano picks the little duckies to win. Go back to your pond little duckies while the Mighty Bruins play big boy football now and in the future in the B1G. Enjoy staying in the lousy Pac 10? 11? 12? Can't wait for UCLA to leave this garbage conference behind.

Mighty Bruins 45 Dead Ducks 38

UCLA still not a football school. What do you have to say now? Oregon has owned the LA schools in the 15-20 years. You can't win sh1t in the PAC 12, good luck getting waxed in the BIG 10. Don't worry, Oregon will be joining you there, soon.

Expand full comment

So YOU'RE the guy who cares about UCLA football?

Based on attendance at the Rose Bowl, very few Bruins fans give a whip. Please tell you non-revenue sports athletes to enjoy all of those frequent flyer miles.

UCLA was only invited to the B1G so FOX could wrap up the LA market. Do you think UCLA gets an invite without USC?

Over the last decade, it is the Oregon Ducks that has carried the conference in CFB, not UCLA or USC.

Garbage conference? B1G has sent 3 schools to the PO with 1 title won. The Pac-12 Conference has sent Oregon and UW to the PO.

Last time out Oregon won in Columbus. Good luck Bruins winning a game in Columbus. As is the case the Pac-12, UCLA will be a football non-entity in the B1G.

Troll On!

Pathetic and childish. If you have real point, instead of just a desire to spew vitriol and nonsense, martial some facts. Better yet, show some maturity and make a prediction and then sit back with the rest of us poorly equipped prognosticators and see how it plays out

Oddly enough, USC and UCLA are the teams the league office (and George) should be rooting for at this point. Utah and Oregon have very little chance of making the playoff. The committee isn't taking a two loss Utah, and even a 1 loss Oregon is doubtful with their 49-3 loss to Georgia. What say you senor Canzano?

I, too shared your hesitation in riding my bike "with the traffic flow", and never had a mishap. I trusted my view of oncoming traffic. I have enjoyed the progress of Lanning's leadership of the Ducks so far, and I expect a close win, but I don't like the spread, so I'll take the Bruins in a squeaker loss 28-31. I'll also take the 24 points and Colorado in the "improved" Buffs.
