A lot of us Duck fans have been holding onto that Chip Era as the gold standard. Nothing has felt quite as good. Ironically it feels like Lanning slaying a good Chip team could change that narrative.
In the middle of the UCLA/Utah game, I texted a football friend of mine and this is all I said.
"I love Chip Kelly. Always have. Always will."
Of course, I am going to cheer wildly for the Dux to hibernate the Bears. I will ride every swing of the game with glee and anguish. But come the end, I will be content. Disappointed if the Dux lose, but still oddly content.
During the ride that was Chip Kelly in Eugene, I said/wrote more than once that I felt so incredibly blessed to be a Ducks fan during the years he gave us. I have never been more thrilled or fulfilled as a sports fan, particularly a football fan of many decades, as I was during those years that went by in a "blur". I have never laughed out loud with total abandon over a game as I did when I watched opposing defenses suck air and hold their knees and begin to crumble and fake injuries and whine about the "gimmicky" offense. (I'm talkin' to you, Nick Saban, when you sought a rules change because of the threat that the Ducks' style of offense posed.). And its progeny is everywhere today, at all levels of football, tempo as weapon. They don't give him credit, but his fingerprints are all over many changes in the game.
I can't wait for the 22nd. And I am really glad that no matter what, I will be content. Sorta.
In 2000 Gameday came to Eugene for the first time and we were playing a #6 ranked UCLA team and we beat them! It was an incredible day. Let's do it again! Let's Go Duck's!
After the Ducks game tonight, I tweeted @collegegameday about their plans for 10/22... then saw that Kelly Graves had beat me to it, among others. As is often the case, mine was not an original thought. But as you alluded, espn is not the point. Anyone who followed these 2 games today saw it; how could you not! There is a great showdown coming in 2 weeks. How could it not be the game of the week? Possibly the game of the year in the PAC-12. Not hard to imagine that the winner ends up facing SC in Vegas...
Enjoy your 7-5 season and toilet bowl appearance. I can't wait for UCLA to leave the mess that the Pac-12 has become to go play some real football in the B1G. Now run on back to your dog house little doggie where you belong.
Go Bruins.....................roast the Duckies. Will be interesting to see if Canzano has the balls to pick UCLA or will he go with his Pacific Northwest bias towards Oregon when he picks this game.
Us vs. UCLA has brought mixed emotions ever since Chip took over. I want Chip to win every game except against us. The man is a legend in my book. I honestly think he deserves a statue (with the golf visor) for taking us to the next level. The contribution he made in putting us on the map for good is priceless. He has been honing his craft and experimenting for years, always using science to innovate. I love that.
This game should be a blast. This will be the most complete matchup of these teams that have met in a long time. Two explosive offenses with great running games and two veteran QBs with potent receivers.
Our defense and Autzen should give us the win when the smoke clears, but the Bruins will show up playing with a chip (pun intended). They know very well we are the school the PAC has went through for the last decade plus. FIREWORKS ARE COMING IN AUTZEN💥. I can’t wait! Two weeks? It feels like two years away. It’s just not fair….

UCLA looks like the best team in LA. Would not be surprised to see them v Oregon in Vegas.

One thing: Lanning should not consider trying to outsmart Chip. You need better horses and jockeys to beat him, not a better race plan.
