First, thank you John for continuing what you do. Even though I didn't always agree with you, you were the best part of the Oregonian.
By chance, we flew to AZ on the same plane as our basketball team. Sat across the aisle from Coach Tinkle and gave him a little encouragement. He certainly needed it! Elite 8 was no small feat and I like to think that he can regroup and do good things again. Like you wrote, we certainly can't afford to get another coach.
Mike Parker was on the plane, too, and it was nice to finally meet him. What a fine gentleman he seems to be.
Thanks John for some solid reporting on the OSU basketball scene. Been wondering all season what is going on. This gives some insight for sure. Sounds like it's going to be a long overhaul.
Thanks for OSU comments, but could use more information to chew on. Someone talk to the players. I know Tinkle feels badly, but I don't understand the comment he's used quite a few times that he couldn't coach the players. What does that mean? This next statement is not in reference to your work, but for the last few years information/stories about the Beavers and other in-state team stories really hard to come by. Quotes in articles about Beavers are usually gotten from the Mike Parker's post-game show. Do reporters actually attend games anymore?
"he couldn't coach the players. What does that mean?"
I'll take a shot: The players he recruited were more or less uncoachable, i.e., not teachable. Obviously from Tinkle's body of work we know he can coach. Not these guys. Chemistry, attitude, system, whatever--it happens.
OSU will be back . Great insight John, Wayne Tinkle is good people it will come together. Now, let’s go Peacocks. Heart warming to watch coach Holloway get swarmed by his team during the interview after an incredible win. Like puppies they couldn’t hold back- pure joy and all heart - they personify March Madness❤️ Excited for more. Thanks for your good work John!!!
Comments/Observations around your Coach Tinkle article.
---Disappointed he didn't fly home with his team. He abandoned them. He should have flown home and could have returned to LV the next day.
---Perhaps it was due to your editing, but i didn't read once where he accepted the blame or "This is on me. My fault.'
It is also on the AD for limiting his (AD) options with last year's extension, based on a 6-8 game late winning streak, when the coach may have been on shaky ground prior to the streak. His career record at OSU is under .500
---Embarrassing when attendance at one game was under 1,000 fans.
---I will say, the players played hard to the end in most games, good on them.
John, I've been watching as a fan of the draft this year for the blazers. It has been fun getting to see these young guys go at it! Chet, banchero, ivey.
On St Peter’s. Having lived NYC I’ve thought for years, I’ve always thought, why can’t a local school recruit NYC and get 3 guys a year to stay? Even the second tier talent is ridiculously good there. Fordham…someone? Rutgers does it a little. Pitino is winning that way. Now St Peter’s. There’s more talent in NYC than 85% of the rest of the country. I know they all go to UNC, Syracuse, Duke etc. But the secondary talent and heart of guys who feel overlooked there is still incredible. The Peacocks are proving it.
As for OSU, my uncle lettered there so always a soft spot for the hoops team in Corvallis. Rooting for them to right the ship.

Thanks for being here. Appreciate it.
Speaking of good stories, UP men are fulfilling dreams too
Really like Shantay Legans …
It's hard not to like Coach Tink - and this is coming from a Duck. I hope he gets it going again.
As for Saint Peters: Love me some Peacocks! Has there ever been a better mascot?
Great story. Like to see them in Final Four.

I expect a massive overhaul of roster. Will be interested to see who Tinkle hires.

As an Oregon Sate alum & long time Beavs die hard, the truth hurts. I hope Tinkle can right the ship.
