Another good news “life snatched from the clutches of death” story. So many fortunate circumstances lined up to help Mr. Barnes remain very much alive. God’s hand involved? You bet. John always seems to write these stories with a deft touch. Get well, Mr. Barnes.
As Jimmy V said, we "should have our emotions moved to tears" every day. Check. Prayers to AD Barnes and thank goodness for Doctor Campagne and her team. Thank you John.
John you are/have compiled a treasure trove of human interest material. Time to start your own "And Now the Rest of the Story" broadcast (a 5 minute daily feature--as did the Late Paul Harvey) tie in to a national daily Sports News Summary... John Canzano on Sports
Wow John. Your writing transported me to Fresno. While I have never heard of Scott Barnes, I was hanging on your every word. You are pretty good at this writing stuff.
I love it when, even though a heart attack can happen anytime, anywhere, God's grace and timing put Scott in the middle of a room with a doctor feet away. Praise God that multiple events occurred to ensure that he is stable and on the road to a successful recovery. Big shout out to Dr. Campagne and her crew!!
As always, John, you have more than the average amazing human interest stories and the ability to convey the story well. Maybe you are also acting as the hand of God
There is always some special person just a few feet away or in the nick of time in your stories. We don't always know the ying and the yang of life. But our compassion for each other is the lesson God would want us to learn, I think. And we learn it from you.
Lucky? Luck always plays a part but luck only? No. God's plan works in many ways. and was on full display this day. Too many times in my lifetime have prevailing circunstances made God's plan the only reasoable explanation. This was another of those times, helped in no small part by your excellent explanation giving your readers a crystal clear view of what transpired.
John, thank you for the update and story. Thank God the doctor and her colleagues were present and provided immediate support. In addition the paramedics and hospital were close.
Our thoughts and prayers continue for Scott and his family.
This hits hard for me and brings back a lot of memories, as my father died of a heart attack. Unfortunately he was alone but still alive when a neighbor found him at our house. But we lived in rural Eastern Oregon and by the time paramedics reached him it was to late. Fortunately they were able to get my mother who was teaching at school in our small town home in time before he passed away. I was on a business trip returning to Portland at the time. My wife met me at the airport with my kids, to let me know.
It is amazing how fate sometimes is the difference between living and dying. Obviously this brings back the Buffalo Bills player earlier this year. I remember your earlier columns about the life saving efforts I believe it was at WSU.
I am so happy for Scott and his family that he had a doctor emergency available to help him. God bless them!
Wishing Mr Barnes all the best as he heals. Wishing his loving wife strength and compassion because watching the love of your life collapse in front of you is a gut-wrenching experience which I recently endured as well. Thanking Dr Campagne and others on site for saving his life. Thanking John Canzano for telling this story and lifting all of our hearts in prayer for the Barnes’ family.
Wow. OMG. Thank you. Pick your reaction. Thank you, Dr. Campagne for doing what you do. God bless you and all of your fellow caregivers for doing what you do and for being there for everyone, every minute of every day.
Hopefully Mr. Barnes is on his way to a full recovery. When he does recover I look forward to you talking with him and getting his take. Amazing set of circumstances.

I am thankful he had a trauma physician a few feet away. Amazing. Blessed.

Thanks, John, for another great real life story.
Love that quote...
God has our days numbered before we were born. It wasn’t Scott’s time. Thank you John. Another moving column.
Rooting for a full recovery.
weird....like a tv episode that you don't think could ever really happen. God speed in his recovery.
Exactly.
JC, thank you for reading us in. Grace permeates here and elsewhere.
Thank you for being here Kiwi.
Hopefully Mr. Barnes is on his way to a full recovery. When he does recover I look forward to you talking with him and getting his take. Amazing set of circumstances.
Thanks Mark. I look forward to seeing Barnes walk around at football games, slapping backs with players.
