Wouldn’t it be a fun challenge to build enthusiasm for Portland State football this season? The team is located in Portland and it represents, debatably, the largest university in the state. Have some fun and do some real good!
A PSU football game is not a bad place for a family to get an introduction to college football at an affordable price. The experience reminds me of attending San Jose State football games as a kid.
Bay Area market has 2.65 million TV households, top academic brand, and some success on the field... Stanford would be coveted by Big Ten presidents and that creates leverage.
Canzano. I really enjoy reading your schtick. Just subscribed and sent you some money.
I'm not that evolved as a human being. I just want to read about sports. When it comes to sports reporting, I don't care about that touchy feely stuff, politics and making social statements. Keep it the hard-nosed commentary and I'll keep reading.
A year ago, I would have said a crypto bro or consortium of bros would make a serious run at the Blazers. The league was (is?) moving in that direction and having one of them in ownership would have been a feather in Silver's cap. Instead, Crypto has crashed and the bros are applying for real jobs again.
Jody is doing everything she can to keep from having to sell to Knight and Smolinsky. This is all so dumb. Silver needs to step in and put an end to this. The last thing the league needs is another member of the Walton/Kroenke clan to buy the team.
Besides the fact that PSU football game tickets are bargain you may well be able watch a future Super Bowl MVP such as Cooper Kupp who played for Weber State against the Vikings a few years ago.
How dare you lump me in with your informed and inspiring readers!
Hey, should have asked in time for mailbag—but didn’t: Will Pac 12 commissioner try to lock in all members for long term deals with new TV contract and if so, will teams like Oregon, Washington and others that may want to keep options open argue for some less than horrendous exit penalty?
Well... bonus answer... the Big Ten signed a seven-year deal. I would expect the Pac-12 is going to end up in the 5-7 year range with its deal. Keep an eye on that. Also think the members will try to maintain flexibility in the event the landscape shifts again in 6-7 years.
So how will Newsom and the UC Regents respond when/if B10 comes for Stanford, but not Cal? They’ll do 180 and lobby like hell to get UC school it’s payday.
Branching out beyond the traditional "regional sports writer topics" sounds great.
On the Blazers, I'd bet Jordan Kent would lower their costs from Calabro and I'd greatly welcome that change.
Thanks P.
Speaking of J. Kent, I’m surprised he hasn’t been nabbed by one of the national networks. Does an excellent job IMO.
I love reading your column. Always something interesting to me there.
Thank you. Appreciate this. I'm having a blast.

John why does Stanford have clout in the PAC 12? They don’t have a large fan base. Please explain. Thanks

Jody and Bert... SMH

A lot of noise from the Regents... let's see if they have teeth.
