John, I also loved Bob M.'s comment below regarding academic stature. I have always viewed the Pac12, particularly when it was the Pac8, as an elite academic gathering. Even to the point that I don't understand why Stanford (most people don't realize the scope of that school) and Cal would see any academic advantage in jumping to the Big 10, or any conference except the Ivy. Just sayin'.
John, loved @RoaringForkDvl's comment about "slapping on a logo". Years ago, George Conzano told Jerry Seinfeld he was on the way to the Giants game, his all time football favorite team. Seinfeld said, but the team changes every year; George responded, yes, but they are still the Giants! Jerry then said: "so you are going out to root for the laundry."
As a University employee, I can tell you the finances would have to be hugely advantageous for the rest of the conference for a school without academic status to get into the PAC. This is a thing. Most staff at the Universities aren’t huge sports fans but they do take their academic standing seriously…there’d be a row if they admitted BSU and most other schools on the West coast
And you going to the GA game is one reason I subscribed. Can’t beat having you there.
Oh, and in conclusion: Go Ducks! Go Beavers! (yes we are one of those families.)

Can they add SDSU or UNLV (R1) AND bring back UCLA? Or has that ship completely sailed?
No
Go luck to the Ducks today. Holding up the honor of the Pac-12.

Agree. The $$ drives this. Beyond SDSU, there isn't a strong candidate. I wonder if the Pac-12 will become the Pac-10 permanently.
