Listened to the podcast this morning, as expected it was great. As a lifeling AAWU, Pac 6-8-10-12 fan I am crushed about UCLA and USC leaving but no one in their right mind could blame them. I will say to my grave the Big 10 is foolish to give the SEC a chance to horn in on the West Coast. It's doubtful but its it possible they could try and get Ore, Wash and the Bay area schools. If they asked them how could they say no?.
Can you imagine Stanford and Cal in the same conference at Alabama or Texas A&M? I can't. Stanford could always be the West Coast Vanderbilt. Bad thought.
I can't either but I couldn't have imagined what just happened. It would depend on how badly they wanted to save their athletic departments. Now maybe, probably, they would say the hell with it and join the Mt. West , cause if Oregon and Wash go the 4 corner schools are headed to the Big 12 and no more Pac 12. SEC would pay a lot of money, even if they didn't get equal shares right away. They'd have to at least think about it.
With all this TV money being paid to these conferences it will pretty much be ten minutes commercials two minutes football game. So they can pay the bills.
It's crazy to watch a 90's CFB TV broadcast now. (on Youtube, etc)
It flows so much better with less interruption, less begging for flags, no reviewing or challenging nonsense.
I wish we could get to a place of just great referees and we mostly live and die with their calls. Maybe just have 2 coach challenges per game or something.
Times are changing? Pay to stay? When do we say no? I guess, for me, I have said it. When will we start paying high schoolers to play? Are we and I missed it? Can we, just for another moment, relish the kid hugging that pitcher?
No. Marching forward to what? When will enough money and treats be enough? Never. Greed knows no boundaries.
Call me old -fashioned. Call me old. I wish we had drawn a line in the sand decades ago.
And then we'll see "pay to come back". Reminds me of when the long distance telecom companies were paying $50 to come back. I started haggling one time and got $100 right after getting a $50 check.
Hi John. Florida Gator alum, and Bald faced Truth subscriber, here. We're incredibly excited to get to open the season vs. Utah. Most of us think it's a loss but if our QB Anthony Richardson is a good as the NFL people think he can be I wouldn't be surprised if UF pulled off the upset. I'm especially looking forward to visiting Utah next year.
I think Oregon was lucky that Justin Wilcox turned them down. Wilcox is a great person and a good coach, but I'm not sure he has what it takes to run a top-flight program. Except for one year, he hasn't been much of a recruiter. Cal gave him financial security, why take on the pressure?
Cal is a very academic school and when Jeff Tedford was coach very few of the football players were graduating and that was deemed to be unacceptable. Both Wilcox and Sonny Dykes have had to recruit players who had the potential to be legitimate students and it's been tough. They couldn't offer scholarships to players like Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson, unfortunately. Maybe Wilcox would do better at another school but I don't see him leaving now.
I don't see Oregon beating Georgia, but I think Lanning will do a good job for the Ducks and will recruit well against the rest of the Pac-10. They may lose him to the SEC at some point.
Yes, but I think he put together a pretty tough.defense at Georgia and people in the SEC are going to remember that regardless. I see him at Auburn if that job comes open. At some point Saben is going to retire.
Wow...I wish I could got back and take a shot of playing college Football again...Maybe they could send a few bucks my way..O well you can never go back so lets march forward here and go Beavers/Ducks in 2022

I think you speak for a lot of people.

We interrupt the commercials to bring you some football...
😆😆😆😆😆
Bingo. Overall game day attendance will continue to trend downward as a result. Sad.

And the 15 minute review of a play that stands as ruled...

Ya'll have a great football season.i

It’s a great point Hester.
There will never be “enough”.
Some day we’ll be talking about Oregons new remote practice facility space station on the moon….and it will still not be enough.

I am so blessed to read what John Canzono writes each day. I appreciate his style and solid, honest reporting. Thank you John!
Steve Monroe
Thanks Steve. I appreciate that you and so many others are here for it.
Wisconsin and Braelon Allen will put a hurt on WSU.
We'll see. I think WSU is going to be good on offense.

I wonder what Wilcox would do with more resources.

You left out Colorado-TCU
OK. That would be game No. 12... but I don't have a lot of faith in Colorado to win that one. TCU opened as a 10.5 point favorite.

Yep, they may lose him at some point. But if so, it's likely because he delivered at UO.
Yes, but I think he put together a pretty tough.defense at Georgia and people in the SEC are going to remember that regardless. I see him at Auburn if that job comes open. At some point Saben is going to retire.
Go Beavs!
Great “Swamp” image choice.
The way this NIL stuff is going, this sport indeed does feel like “the swamp” right now
Great roundup JC.
