John, here's a mailbag question.

Did Oregon State mess up by passing on Montana State's Brent Vigen for head coach? He was as close as you can get to the Curt Cignetti model. An older, experienced coach with a proven record of success. He just won an FCS national championship. Many of his best players would likely have followed him to OSU, knowing they could pursue a Pac-12 championship and berth into the CFP after accomplished the ultimate FCS prize.

If you use my question, you can edit it down as you see fit. Would love to hear your thoughts on that topic. The fact that OSU asked him to pull a Lane Kiffin and abandon his players before their championship run makes me ill. The fact that he stayed loyal to his team is a virtue, not a liabilty. Guys like Kiffin, Jonathan Smith and countless other middle-aged men could learn a thing or two from him.

Great work as always, John. We’re all better off with your reporting.

John, you headed over the head with ticket prices and how it’s become basically greed on trying to squeeze out more money. This also seems to be the pattern at Oregon as they have priced out the regular family members and gone to seems like more corporate entities having season tickets since 1982. I gave up this year just because of the greed and I’ll never go back to an Oregon game ever again.

What about this "reserved Saturday" Navy v Army game dictake by Trump? Honestly he's got to have more important things to get involved in.

Would Dan Lanning do well by adding Josh Wilcox tohis defensive staff?

Mario ruiz's avatar

Justin Wilcox perhaps?

John, was there talk in Miami about changes to the CFP format by expansion to 16 or 24 teams?

Is it too soon to evaluate the Oregon State post portal talent?

I prefer print

Why not just post who you picked and why? A. Hearing is going. B. You talk waaayyy slower than I can read.

So Dan Lanning’s got his key offensive skill players returning, and the Ducks have pulled quality support from the portal. Offensively, we should be able to compete for a national championship next year. What’s your gut telling you about our new OC, Drew Mehringer? Can we trust him to put together effective and creative game plans?

Is there any concerns about Inoke Breckterfield leaving OSU after 3 weeks to take a similar postion at Utah? Was this just a money related deal? Seems odd to have lost a coach so soon after hiring.

How can the OSU President continue to ignore the constant mistakes and overall mismanagement of the athletic department by Barnes. He’s flat out lied about funding for football, has ignored the horrendous results of men’s basketball, a complete collapse of NIL, and more.

I agree; Barnes doesn’t even answer letters from old Alumni like me, with constructive helpful ideas !

Barnes is “ Long in the Tooth”, and needs , for the benefit of everyone, to RETIRE . Period.

John,

Does the college football national championship seem tarnished in this time of NIL money, the transfer portal, and 24 year old seniors?

Mailbag question: Who wins the PAC 12 Women's Rowing championship this year? I'd like to hear a little bit about the kids who aren't paid hundreds of thousands of dollars but participate for the love of the sport. And I never have rowed but I figure they probably get less ink than anyone.

This game is way out of the realm of possibility for the average person let alone a family attending due to the excessive costs involved.

I can eat all want as I watch the game at home on TV. 🤪

Pricing is getting out of hand. Let’s take a look at Las Vegas they overpriced everything and now people aren’t going. The same thing will happen to college sports. Maybe someone could start an amateur sports in college unpaid students just playing for the love of the game.
