So sad! Excellent (but sad) follow up John. Couples like them so frequently pass closely to one another. Sappy to admit, but dying of a broken heart… it’s real.

Very nice tribute John. As the Schonely's neighbor for about 10 years in Charbonneau, it was a privilege to get to know Dottie outside of Bill's "shadow." Wonderful gardener, always impeccably dressed, very sweet, and a class act. I wondered how long she would last without Bill. Praise that they're both in heaven together!

Thank you for sharing, John. I grieve along with the family that Dottie is gone but we must be excited that she is in Heaven with Bill--and they are together, once again! As it should be!

We can all continue to keep their family in our prayers!!

Another tear in the eye this morning John. Sad, but yet somehow I have a feeling their somewhere smiling because they're together again. Their start reminds me of meeting my wife at our 30th reunion. We just went to our 40th this past summer and have been married for 4 years. I hope we get the opportunity to have as many years together by each others side as they did.

Oh what sad news. I’ve witnessed the “widow effect” with friends parents- I think it’s a real thing. It’s nice to know that Bill and Dottie are together again. RIP Dottie.

Wow. Sorry to hear this but glad she can be reunited with Bill. The widower effect is real. Much respect from a lifelong Laker fan for Bill Schonley and his wife. Class acts. Rest In Peace. Well written, John.

Thanks for the wonderfully heartwarming although sad article, John. I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet them but thanks to you I feel like I know them both. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Schon's over the years, even though I'm not a Blazer fan. You could tell in his voice that he loved what he was doing. Thanks for telling their story.

Damn JC, you are one fine story teller! My Mom passed a bit over 4 months after Da.d. They too were alwasys together, both actually and in everyone's mind as well. Thanks for making me remember

I watched my parents leave this planet in similar fashion--they had been sweethearts since junior high school. And I loved the Schonz line about making his free throws. My dad, the football coach, had “out kicked this coverage.” In marrying Mom.

Forever 💕 love.
