I attended UCLA as an undergrad, went to Michigan for my doctorate, then taught at UCLA during the Alcindor (of course later Kareem) years and have been shocked at their moving to the Big 10. But at least they are owning something that has been apparent for a long time: college sports is not for the student-athletes, but for the high-priced coaches and reputations of the colleges. And unless they are among the very few who manage to get to the pros, many end up with debilitating injuries later in life.
CFB/CBB at the P5 level; at least semi-pro sports.
The athletes who are going to suffer playing in the B1G are the non-revenue sport guys and gals and in some respects, CBB players both men and women.
Funny. The B1G has the dough but has largely flamed out in the basketball tournament and Ohio State is .500 in CFB appearances and Michigan and MSU were plastered in their 1 appearance. Baseball? The B1G is a non-entity. Golf? When's the last time the B1G won an NCAA golf title? T+F?
Again, the money is there because of huge #s of alumni/alumnae but the on field results kind of stink.
