I'm a WSU Cougar Fan and I follow the Beavers. I have to admit that Dan Lanning is a phenomenal coach. I know he has resources, lots of people have resources. He flat out wins. You can have resources, but you still have to win. Hopefully Oregon State can find that hidden gem of a hire like the Ducks did. That was brilliant outside-the-box thinking. When they hired him I thought, Dan who? I'm not thinking that anymore.
Well, Charles, every band has its turn in the spotlight. I especially like the moment when the Cal player scored the winning touchdown against Stanford and ran thru the band in the process. Memorable!!
Clearly you haven’t paid much attention have you. Shoot Trojan band wasn’t the best in the PAC. Huskies much better. Stanford. Cal knows how to mess up games. Then as most posts here pointed out the bands down south. Broaden your horizons as the HBCU bands clearly dominate USC. And since you mentioned national, a month ago you got to see the cross country Indiana band of Notre Dame along with the another L for the Trojans (2 giant losses that weekend). Now most on here will agree though that the USC lady cheerleaders have well done uniforms. Classic styling.
I hope Jedd Fisch plays Lanning’s ‘helmet smashing’ video to UW players. I also hope he hears Husky Stadium roar on 4th downs, especially from the north end student section. Go Dawgs!
UW does have a very talented band. My favorite tune is their cover of Santana's, "Everybody's Everything." Their horn section crushes it! However, the best college football band? the Ohio State University ;)
Strange how every "dynasty"-like team (or think they are) eventually fall. The UO will soon do the same and it will be fun to watch them wonder what went wrong. UO-27 UW-34.
"The Trojans noted that it was 'Duck Hunting Season' ..."
I kind of wish Oregon still played Cal on a regular basis. Every time the Ducks faced the Golden Bears, I couldn't help but think of a classic line from the 1970s hit song "Convoy": "I says, 'Calling all trucks / This here's the Duck / We're about to go huntin' Bear!'"
And I think the Trojans need to be reminded that you can't spell "You suck!" without U-S-C -- in that order.
Very original. Any more clever comments you can up with completely on your own? Or…. is it deflecting from the FACT that Oregon has NEVER won a national championship?
Just like New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys fans, USC fans always invoke the past because their team is second-tier at best in the present. Oh, and the last time USC regularly contended for titles, they were violating NCAA rules on Pete Carroll's watch in the early 2000s. Translation: They cheated -- and Carroll wasn't man enough to take the consequences, which is why he bolted to the Seahawks. It's also why I'm laughing now that he's taking it in the teeth with the Raiders.
I believe your comments are what the kids would call “basic”. Lanning is a fantastic college coach…. I hope he sticks around. Pete Carroll will be in the college and pro football hall of fame…. Do you see the see the difference?
I mean USC is definitely there…. and I don’t think it was ever a world power….. Is this just overcompensating for an inferiority complex because most of your coaches end up leaving for other programs?
How does never having won a national championship deligitimize a program that has been among the best in college football for three decades? I don’t understand. So every physicist without a Nobel is a pretender? Every chef without a Beard award serves slop?

Hey John, first time responder and long time listener. I had a thought about what to name the Oregon vs. Washington rivalry. Why not call it the Emerald Bowl. Lane County is the Emerald Empire because it is "damn" green. Seattle is the Emerald City. Just crossed my mind when I was listening to your show from yesterday. Really appreciate how you approach everything you do with intention and meaning.
When Stanford defeated USC at the Colosseum 55-21 in 2009 Pete Carroll famously asked Jim Harbaugh "Whats your deal?". What was not reported was Harbaugh's response which was something like "We were just trying to shut your frigging band up!"
USC's band is incredible. Watching it emerge from the tunnel at the Coliseum, form up on the field and play the USC fight song is one of the absolute joys of college football.
Sometimes these guys should take a moment, stop and smell the roses.
dum dum de dum gotta love the song girls, however. As the USC band marched onto the Stanford field years ago, they were greeted, in unison, from the crowd (yes, crowd!)
USC band is easy to tune out. They know only two tunes. It becomes drab wallpaper.

Duck fan here. Appreciate your comments. I wish nothing but the best for the new PAC12!
“which plays incessantly during games”
Best band in the country. Maybe it feels that way because Autzen is so small….
Best band in the country??? No freaking way, amigo, check out the Grambling Band!!!
Now there's a band!!!
Hell, ALL of the HBCU's have great bands.
You have that exactly right!!!
The HBCU bands are pretty incredible.
I disagree, no one will ever touch THE LELAND STANFORD UNIVERSITY MARCHING BAND1
Well, Charles, every band has its turn in the spotlight. I especially like the moment when the Cal player scored the winning touchdown against Stanford and ran thru the band in the process. Memorable!!
Agree, Charles- but don’t forget the JUNIOR 🥁
The USC band was at Autzen? Hmm, never heard them.
Best band, best quarterback, best school, best football, best delusional fan base.
Also lead the League in sexual harassment of students by faculty.
…..Thank you?

“Best in the country”😂🤣😂🤣
More like the most overrated university marching band in the country.

Jedd Fisch is too busy looking on Zillow at housing in BatonRouge and Gainesville, and trying to keep up with his wife’s Insta feed.
Clearly, Jedd is not UW’s long term coach. But I expect he’ll be locked in for Saturday’s tilt.
Bow Down to the Talent that is the Husky Band 🎶
GO DAWGS
Great band I’ll have to agree.

Their tactics may have worked 20 plus years ago, but the tide has turned. Now, the Ducks are the big dogs, and the Trojans are the wannabees.
Strange how every "dynasty"-like team (or think they are) eventually fall. The UO will soon do the same and it will be fun to watch them wonder what went wrong. UO-27 UW-34.
Oregon by two well earned td's...UW will play hard but not as successfully as UO.

Do you think the Ducks will always win in the future? How Phil goes is how the Ducks go. And he is like 89.
And you think he doesnt have an estate? Put a billion in a trust fund and it will fund charities and athletics for a very long time.
It must suck to be a USC fan and still have a fat head about former glory.
Worse than never having experienced glory?
Troy used to be a great city. It was destroyed and is no longer a world power, just like USC.
I mean USC is definitely there…. and I don’t think it was ever a world power….. Is this just overcompensating for an inferiority complex because most of your coaches end up leaving for other programs?
And Lincoln’s not taking you to one
Maybe, we’ll see… We’ve got the #1 recruiting class at the moment, a great GM, and a 1st class AD…. We’ll get it figured out.

Sorry, posted this in the wrong place:

The Emerald Bowl was played in San Francisco between 2004 and 2009 organized by Bald Faced Truth reader Gary Cavalli.
“11-0 in National Championships..”The final argument for a loser living in the past.
No future just reliving the good ol’ days.
No there isn’t. USC hasn’t been all that for some years now.
Well USC has won a national championship more recently than Oregon.
Yes…this is true.
Gosh, none of their hoo ha worked, did it? Hate it for 'em!

USC has 11. UO has 0.
Good interview. I like the coach.
“I never heard their band.” Lanning lied.
I never heard them the entire game either. They are usually obnoxious, it was always so so loud they were drowned out

BIG RUBBER BAND!!
