I agree, and that’s exactly why the decision makers don’t consider the fan base over money. They need the money to compete at the highest level, and the fans will follow regardless. Maybe not at first, but as u described, the beer will still be cold at the tailgater.

I don’t historically watch SEC or ACC or B1G games. Fans aren’t going to watch B1G games just bc of “what was.” If ur team goes to a new conference, fans will watch that conference, and leave the rest behind, outside of the occasional curiosity for a game when nothing else is on.
