Dammit, John, I am already late and should be heading out the door, and then I see your name in my email and I have to stop. So I guess I am just going to be even later, because I can't leave now. Another of your great efforts. Nicely done.
Most of my life was spent in Oregon, until tiring of the rain. Your column with the Oregonian was usually the first thing I read. I’ve lived in Arizona for 10 years and will always be a fan of our Oregon college sports, as well as our Blazers.
Each morning I eagerly look forward to your updates. You provide us, the readers, with the back stories and provide so many heartwarming elements. Thank you, John!
My HS friend played O-Line for Miami OH 1982-1986 - got a business degree and has done well post football. Sadly, too many of his teammates left with no degree and battered bodies. He wanted me to know it was very difficult to meet the demands of the sport, and of the classroom.
Is this kosher, John, to post an article on your blog? Here is the game summary from the Fresno State newspaper. I know the kids playing on Saturday know and care nothing about a 2001 game. But for those of us who remember, it was a bitter pill to swallow and this is a revenge game for us: https://gobulldogs.com/news/2001/9/2/Football_Buries_No_10_Oregon_State_44_24
Another great column John. But, you didn’t mention another reason why this years Fresno State team should be respected, Jeff Tedford. May be he has a little chip on his shoulder too.
Came across your column and have really enjoyed those few moments a day when I can read what you have created. Love the stories about the people not just the games, scores, and money. Hope you are able to find time and energy to continue. Being a WSU fan I never liked O of O much but as I have gotten older I have mellowed some - it helps that I have daughter and family living in Springfield and working in Eugene. I guess some of the U of O people are nice!!!!!! As a Coug in 1974-79 it was a big rivalry, lots of memories at basketball games especially. Have a great day
Right on. People First! That's what one of my international business clients called my Inside Out Leadership Seminars.
One of my business heroes, Herb Kelleher, founder of Southwest Airlines, said, "The business of business isn't business. The business of business is people." And that priority and focus is why by any metric SouthWest has been the most successful US airline--Best safety record, lowest employee turnover, highest profit margin, longest string of profitable years, best rate of growth, highest employee satisfaction scores, only major airline that hasn't gone into bankruptcy...

If we have to be reminded that college football is about the players, is it really about the players?
Great piece! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Canzano! Many of us have followed your career also. You’re one of us!

Jerry Tarkanian - NIL Pioneer. Clever...
Another home run John; you and Judge!
Love these behind the scenes personal profile stories.
Thank you. Another great piece of work and storytelling. Appreciate these!
Such a great column, John! Thank you
Your stories are moving and kind. I appreciate reading your wonderful stories of real people.
