Very well written JC...thank you for allowing fans like me an imaginary seat in the service, just as Schonz gave me an imaginary seat in the MC on so many nights growing up. Rip City has lost its voice, but that voice will never be forgotten.

It is harder seeing an icon pass as It brings all of our mortality into focus; and the ones we miss and loved.

I went to that church a couple of times several years ago to watch a friend sing in the Christmas program. Bill Schonely did the reading, which I thought was pretty cool. Thanks for giving us all a peek inside.

When it comes to great writers there are definitely plenty we can talk about but I can only think of you and Beverly Cleary that allow us to not only read the story but also visualize it as it develops. I hope you make it to 104 also John!

I happened to be in the area and saw the officers lining the streets and wondered what they were doing. I must have just missed the procession. Thank you for sharing. It sounds like it was beautiful.

About 35 police escort motorcycles cam by my house earlier today - wondered what was going on. A true local legend beloved by all.

It is for columns and moments like this that I subscribe. The tones of his dulcid baritone will always ring true for those of us that have followed from the inception. Didn't grow up here, but grew to love the "icon" . Thanks again for the notes

Thanks for bringing us into the church, JC. The showing of former players and team execs speaks volumes about the level of respect and love so many have for The Schonz. May he rest in peace - and my the franchise he helped put on the map figure out how to thrive once again.
