What a great story! I worked with Nova when she was at Friends of Baseball (and I was a a banker). It was wonderful to learn more about her lifelong connection to baseball- what an incredible woman and wishing her continued success with the Mariners- they are so lucky to have her.
Every week I look forward to seeing an email from you, as I know I am about to read something special. You never disappoint. Another wonderful story, thank you!
I love your human interest stories. This one reminds me of my young days in Portland. I was a Portland Beaver fan and loved to go to the Vaughn St. stadium to see my favorite players, the two I most remember was outfielder Danny Escobar, and underhanded pitcher Ad Liska. In those days the away games were broadcast on the radio, with the announcer reading the play by play from a teletype print out, and they played crowd noises in the background, and used a sound effect of the crack of the bat. To a kid it made you feel like you were at the game.

Careful John. You're going to lose your hard-earned rep for being a tough, no-prisoners columnist! Stellar piece about a remarkable woman! Keep it up.
