First off, thanks for calling it the Civil War game. Second, I’m thinking the Ducks win 28-24. I’m a Duck Honk but love the fact that OSU is good this year. It puts a lot of meaning to the game. Can’t wait to watch it. Go Ducks!!

Oregon State wins this one 30-27 and Bo is sacked twice.

I'm also elated that everyone I've spoken with still calls this historic game "the Civil War".

I want to be the first to say that the Ducks will win this one by at least two TDs. Bo Nix is a star and today will show how much he has impacted the Ducks, but also set the stage for a brilliant career. Mariota, Herbert and Nix ....destiny will play out in this one.

Oregon needs its OL and Secondary to play well to win today. I think the Ducks cover the -3

Also nice to hear everyone on Gameday still call it “the Civil War” this morning!

Another fun fact…a

The field at Autzen is named Rich Brooks Field, after Rich Brooks, a graduate of Oregon State

Ducks by two touchdowns. Forsyth returns to the O line and Ducks run the ball.

I have seen commenters stating the Ducks need to run as that is the weakness of the Beavers D. Huh? That is the strength of the D. Practically no one runs on the Beavers effectively, which is how they have the best run defense in the Pac 12 at 111.4 / game, better than Utah. The scoring defense is second by 0.3 behind only Utah. The Beavs have a great D which few realize as it was bad for so long. The Beavers weakness is pass rush (their D linemen are small and not fast) but that is compensated by a great secondary. I pick the Beavers mostly on home field advantage. Historically, home field plays a huge role in this series.

The Pac 12 officiating is simply the worst in the country. How did the 3rd down play not equal a first down. The spot at the 5 was outside where Martinez's knee was down at around the 4 1/2. The ball was on the 4 when his knee was down. 1st Down!!! what is wrong with these officials?!!! They also missed the late hit on Martinez out of bounds a couple players earlier.

John Canzano rates Utah's home field advantage as best in Pac-12. He has Reser second and he never mentioned where he had Autzen. I will take Autzen as best. John also says Jonathan Smith has best offensive mind in Pac-12. Disagree here too, as Beavers have not scored nearly as many points as Ducks this year. I will take Oregon's offensive co-ordinator Kenny D. as the best play caller in the league. Reser only holds 25,000. In 2009 at Autzen, for the right to go to the Rose Bowl, Ducks won. In 1994 at Reser, Rich Brooks and the U of O, came from behind and beat OSU, and go to their first Rose Bowl in only 80 or so years. . Ducks will win a close game today, and go on to play USC in Las Vegas in early December for Pac-12 title. As every year, the Beavs say "wait until next season." Ducks in a huge game, will find a way to win.

In the Apple Cup in Pullman, I have the Cougars over the Monsters from Montlake. Usc beats Notre Dame in another good game. Ohio State over Michigan, and Clemson over South Carolina are my other picks.

Hope Smith pulls blunders like he did against USC in Corvallis this season, when he and his qb only threw four picks. His other rocket scientist move was not kicking field goals in Seattle. He forgot to take his team with him to Utah and got buried. Three Pac-12 losses for the Beavers; better than usual. Canzano brags about being un-biased but the Beavers, maybe partly because he has a very close relative attending school in Corvallis, are his favorite. Sure glad, when given the choice 60 years ago by my deceased father, of whether to be a Duck or a Beaver, I chose the Ducks! GO DUCKS; ON THE WAY TO THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN IN 2022! Not even next year for OSU, as kicking field goals and having a decent quarterback are out of their reach. Reser will hold a whopping 36,000, and Beavers should try and find a new coach. You can write Pat Reser in Beaverton. She just gave $50 million to the city of Beaverton for an arts project, so maybe she can find a proven coach who understands, when on the road, in a place where you have had very little success, you kick a field goal or two. When she was my teacher in 6th grade, in 1963, in Hillsboro, Or. Mrs. Reser told me her husband made potato salad. It is real good, and I still buy Reser's today. Not today Beavers, so sorry. Maybe you do not tinkle again, on youself, in men's basketball, like last year when you topped out with three huge wins! oooossssuuuu p.u. Ducks rule!

I have no horse in this one, being a Cal grad whose only salvation is retention of the Axe. However, in my list of Pac-12 schools I dislike it tends to read USC, UO, and then UW. I have always had a soft spot for the plucky schools like WSU and Oregon State...that said even if the Beavers lose, Jonathan Smith gets my vote for Coach of the Year. I fondly remember the Beavers showing up in Berkeley and the students removing the "B" from the chant, "Beat the Beavers."

Two good teams in their rival game. Ducks win 31-28. GO DUCKS!

Big game for Troy Franklin and Bo Nix. Oregon Ducks win 42-28. Offensive line is too good and Donte Thornton is a rising star.

Final score will be 27-24. Only problem I have is I don’t know which team will have which score. I am a 1964 Duck graduate and an avid Duck fan. PS: I love your Bald Face Truth columns.

Reveal the “rest of the story” why Autzen was named after an OSU graduate. Thanks, John!

Growing up in Albany (born in Corvallis) I remember Hudson Stadium. But I never knew its history until just now. It was strange to have a big stadium in the sports field of an elementary school. I guess I never asked. It was at Central School which was an elementary school when I was growing up but had been a junior high before (built in 1915 after the first Civil War game on its grounds). The stands were still there in the 1960s as I remember. I can't say when they were torn down. But that big sports field is still there, right off of Hwy 99 and Hwy 20, which is probably why the site was chosen.
