I think back to Bellotti's teams. They weren't expected to win easily, if win at all. They weren't teams filled with 5*s. They knew they had to fight and scrap for everything. As Bellotti said, football is a game of inches, and they fought for every inch. Contrast that with many of the high-priced teams today where some of the players have a sense of entitlement, reinforced by money and adulation. I wonder how much of that was at play yesterday for Oregon? Why should they need a "wakeup call?"
This is no disrespect to the hard work and effort of this team. But this isn't the first time a vaunted Oregon team started the season scrambling to win their opener.

We need a few more games by both Oregon and Boise State to get a better read of who these two teams really are. Don’t forget two years ago when Boise State took Oregon to the final play of the game. And also don’t forget the disappointing season opening 20-14 win against Idaho the week prior. There was a lot of overreaction after those two games. Then they ran the table and got clobbered by Ohio State. Ugly wins here and there are OK. It’s the ugly losses at the end that hurt.

Strong showing by both teams...Kudos to both teams playing a high profile game in Week #1. Will benefit the Ducks greatly. Four cupcake wins in a row like most seasons' do not transfer well into November when the games get gritty and sticky. Champions thrive when its gritty and sticky. I liked what I witnessed from both teams. Very strong fundamental play on both sides of the ball by both teams. Everyone looks at the G5 like they are everyone's little brother, but Boise has been a giant killer for years and about every 3 years, they are among the best.

Yesterday's game was emblematic of Oregon and why you can't trust them. This was supposed to be an advertised massacre with Uncle Nil's mercenaries crushing, if not embarrassing Boise State in Autzen....for once! And it didn't happen. There is no position group where BSU has an advantage. We've learned you can't trust Dan Lanning in a big game at the end of the season, now it's with the home opener at the start of the season. Ouch. Cue up all the excuses.
Ducks actually did dominate, but mistakes, penalties, and Boise State making critical plays kept it close. Hats off to Boise State! They are good and should dominate the PAC-12. Last time a close game with Boise State happened, Ducks went 12-0 and were B1G Champions. Sure, they lost in the playoffs, but I will take a season like that over all the schools that can only dream of having such a season.
No one who actually knows what they are talking about ever thought this would be a "massacre". But many fans, posters, and outside the northwest media don't know what they are talking about when it comes to NW, much less west coast, football.
It was a great game, and what people saw they want to see more of. I fully expect to see both teams in the postseason.
BSU was near perfect for most of the game. Play calling, execution, tackling, anticipation, coaching, excellent. Second half Duck talent came through. Dan is not a deciplinaeian
Lanning is very structured and demands performance. He wisely does not shame or embarrass players in public. That said, the team did not seem prepared for Boise, almost surprised. Whether that was lack of preparation or taking things for granted remains to be seen. The fact that the second half was much better suggests some tough talk occurred in the locker room at the half- from coaches and other players.
Oops, disciplinarian! Let the kids have fun, but cut the crap. Excellence is to be expected! “I do this every time!!” No need for a dance (or a flag). I think it will be cleaned up……but we’ll see!
Good to see you following the Ducks. Boise State out played and out coached the Ducks didn't they. But, a good team finds a way to win in the end most.of the time but not always. Just 88% over the last 3 years.. Darn.

The non-call on the fumbled punt was extremely poor officiating. The Boise State player clearly violated the free zone provided for a free catch.
