I think back to Bellotti's teams. They weren't expected to win easily, if win at all. They weren't teams filled with 5*s. They knew they had to fight and scrap for everything. As Bellotti said, football is a game of inches, and they fought for every inch. Contrast that with many of the high-priced teams today where some of the players have a sense of entitlement, reinforced by money and adulation. I wonder how much of that was at play yesterday for Oregon? Why should they need a "wakeup call?"
This is no disrespect to the hard work and effort of this team. But this isn't the first time a vaunted Oregon team started the season scrambling to win their opener.
We need a few more games by both Oregon and Boise State to get a better read of who these two teams really are. Don’t forget two years ago when Boise State took Oregon to the final play of the game. And also don’t forget the disappointing season opening 20-14 win against Idaho the week prior. There was a lot of overreaction after those two games. Then they ran the table and got clobbered by Ohio State. Ugly wins here and there are OK. It’s the ugly losses at the end that hurt.
Boise State uniforms really aesthetically pop when they clash against a green field, rather than the smurf turf! Great photos and great game yesterday.

Yesterday's game was emblematic of Oregon and why you can't trust them. This was supposed to be an advertised massacre with Uncle Nil's mercenaries crushing, if not embarrassing Boise State in Autzen....for once! And it didn't happen. There is no position group where BSU has an advantage. We've learned you can't trust Dan Lanning in a big game at the end of the season, now it's with the home opener at the start of the season. Ouch. Cue up all the excuses.
BSU was near perfect for most of the game. Play calling, execution, tackling, anticipation, coaching, excellent. Second half Duck talent came through. Dan is not a deciplinaeian
Lanning is very structured and demands performance. He wisely does not shame or embarrass players in public. That said, the team did not seem prepared for Boise, almost surprised. Whether that was lack of preparation or taking things for granted remains to be seen. The fact that the second half was much better suggests some tough talk occurred in the locker room at the half- from coaches and other players.
Oops, disciplinarian! Let the kids have fun, but cut the crap. Excellence is to be expected! “I do this every time!!” No need for a dance (or a flag). I think it will be cleaned up……but we’ll see!
I had the points. Completely outplayed and outcoached in the first half. Nice comeback. Running the football and being able to are imperative to a winning season. Ditch the hurry up offense completely. Unless you’re behind. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

The non-call on the fumbled punt was extremely poor officiating. The Boise State player clearly violated the free zone provided for a free catch.
