Here on the North Oregon coast I'm watching the Big10 broadcast of the Dux and my beloved Vandals just fine (Spectrum cable). Idaho looked pretty damned good for an FBS program playing the #3 team in the country so far at halftime.
So hey John, one of the most heralded claims about the new WSU/OSU broadcasting package has been that unlike the PAC 12 Network the CW is available to 100% of homes nationwide. Sitting here at home in Phoenix, I tuned into my CW channel on YouTube TV at 12:00 pm, only to find to my dismay, that the WSU game, as shown in the guide, was instantly blacked out at noon precisely—the same has occurred for the OSU game with no explanation other than a blank screen. What gives?!
I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Both games were on The CW, on Hulu here in Texas. I watched the end of PSU/WAZU which led into the OSU/Idaho State game.
The other thing I don't understand is why in this day and world of incredible technology is the game shown in Standard Edition, not High Definition. It's ridiculous that any show in todays world would not be shown in HD (High Definition), let alone not in 4K like every other streaming service has. Just another example of how streaming rocks over linear TV, but then again, you know, when you upset the British Oligarchical Monopoly on television, these are the games they play.
Totally agree. Have not understood why all of the CW programming, not just sports, is in Standard Definition. My wife said she plans to call the Eugene CW channel on Tuesday to ask this question.
Please tell us the answer :) be interesting to hear...if they plan on being a player in the national scene for college sports, pretty much gotta be in HD quality at least, much better if 4K.
Bunch of funny business as I'm sure when the dust settles and the ratings come out, few will remember or even realize these glitches play into this bullshit narrative that the Beavs and Cougs don't have the same ratings as the Duck and Huskies, which is total bullshit.
Greg, CW 7, the local station, is broadcasting local content. We have to get on the national feed to get OSU here. Just checked again and I am getting the stream on my iPhone. So they have fixed the problem. My Nvidia Shield still has an issue, though so I can't watch on my TV. But I got it up on my laptop and am able to cast to my TV, so problem solved (casting reduces the resolution, but much better than nothing)
As I record the games, this one started broadcasting after half time. Maybe CW will do us a favor and rebroadcast the entire game so we can also record the first half
Same experience for me here in Scottsdale, Jeff. I turned on the OSU game and it shows at the bottom that I am watching it (and in the Youtube TV directory) but it is blank. I am guessing they are having network issues having never broadcast into the Southwest before, though this is streaming and you would think the location wouldn't matter if you have a subscription with a licensed carrier. I sent a message to the Support email address at CW. Haven't heard back yet and probably won't till next week.
Really? That’s odd. I have YouTubeTV in the Willamette Valley here in Oregon and it was a great broadcast. I wonder if there was some sort of error or something from the Phoenix CW station.
Congrats to the Cougs...Could very well be a College Football Playoff team this year. I've never really understood why all the players and coaches bolted at OSU. If OSU would have kept their players and coaches intact, they too, would likely be a college football playoff contender this year. Gonzaga has proven that you can do it from a small conference and be BIG-TIME.
I thought the Beavs game plan was solid and was not surprised (based on my extensive coaching experience in the sport) that the game was close early. First games are always a crapshoot, heck look at Oregon, even with all that talent and their coaching staff in tact, you just never know how its going to go out of the gate. Football is a funny bird and there are a ton of moving parts, each part has to fit perfectly, kind of like an orchestra, if you're a half tick off, doesn't sound so great. Texas Tech and NCState were other programs who struggled against FCS programs, so its not exactly a rarity. In a weird kind of way, I'd rather be challenged out of the gate than winning 77-0, like Stephen F. Austin did this past weekend with former Hidden Valley QB Sam Vidlak going 8-8 for 285 and 5 TD's in the first quarter. They were never challenged out of the gate, and may end up rolling into next weeks game vs North Texas a little over confident. Oregon was challenged and they rose to the occasion. Who can forget two years ago when Portland St beat WSU, or even a few years back when EWU beat the Beavs or last year when NMexico St went into Auburn and bitch slapped war eagle at home...everyone calm down and let the season progress. The bottom line is both programs are 1-0 and have things they can now identify that they need to correct (which you don't always get from a 77-0 win, as many expected Oregon to do to the Vandals), and hats off to Idaho and Idaho St who both came to the Beaver state and performed well on the road.
Nice photos. At least one pic of Vikings fan. I guess we can take these and use our imagination for what the game looked like...since we can't see any of the games on TV or streaming. (at least that I can find).
Phoenix station (CW7) is not carrying the OSU game. I checked their website. That is for cable, though. The national streaming carriers should get the national programming, which "The CW" website shows is the OSU game. Weird.
Sorry if I missed an article on this topic, but as a reporter do you have any general sense of feeling the players have playing these games? It’s got to be humiliating on some levels. I know half a mil for PSU is great, but I would hate playing a higher division and getting blown out like this.
Or, have any of the other readers played college ball and played in these types of games? Would love to hear.
I hate these games personally, and feel they are one of few things wrong with college football.
Agreed....College teams do not play High School teams do not play JHS teams, do not play PeeWee teams. There is a reason in PeeWee they have weight limits. Bigger, more mature, stronger and faster players are going to have an advantage no amount of coaching or desire can overcome. Teams should not play between levels. I don't know how it would be managed, but money should not be the deciding factor to throw players to the wolves.

Just tuned in…beginning of the 4th, Idaho 7 Oregon 14

Following. I am in phx too
Does the CW broadcast in the Phoenix area?
If so, you might be able to connect an OTA antenna to your TV. Most modern TVs have tuners for OTA antennas.

Blacked out? Like what was showing? Something else, or a screen that said the game was Blacked out?
Or some technical glitch?
Odd
Just plain black. No icons no message.
Totally blank screen for me, although Brian says that it showed that he was watching the game in the banner on the bottom of his blank screen.

I suspect you are right, but seems strange that they have had all day to work it out and haven’t done so.
Sure glad I didn't spend $70 to upgrade my Comcast package for the Ducks game.
Congrats to the Cougs...Could very well be a College Football Playoff team this year. I've never really understood why all the players and coaches bolted at OSU. Thanks for the photos! Go Cougs!

Great pics for sure 😎
Great photo gallery. Thanks, John and Geoff!!

It was nationwide on The CW. Enter your zip at the link to find your local station: https://www.cwtv.com/thecw/stations/

No problem with Hulu
Thanks Tony. I'll take a look.

Thanks for Coug pictures! I was able to watch the Wazzu game in Scotland via the internet. Loved it!
Great pics of the game Geoff!
Go Cougs! Mateer was lights out. Seperate topic, the Beavers look stacked at RB. Oregon shaky.
Great photos Geoff. Thanks JC for getting coverage for the game. Lots of interesting story lines so far on this Saturday in college football.
Anyone else notice most humans shown on CW during the Beaver Game where Orange?
Visually, it looked like the CW was using that old ESPN production truck.
