Day One of the Portland Regional of the women’s NCAA Tournament started with fans lined up outside Moda Center. It ended with two teams sent home.
No. 3 seed North Carolina State recovered from a double-digit halftime deficit to upset No. 2 Stanford 77-67 on Friday. And No. 1 seed Texas beat fourth-seeded Gonzaga 67-47 in the nightcap.
Texas will play NC State on Sunday at Moda Center with a trip to the Final Four at stake.

The NC State women’s and men’s teams keep exceeding expectations—pretty amazing. It did not help that Cameron did not have a great game, and fouled out with about 8 minutes to go in the 4th. Still, credit goes to the Wolfpack. And Go Beavs!
So pleased that Women’s basketball was the impetus for drawing a great crowd and showing off the beauty of Portland. The sunshine helped!
