I remember the time USC got in a dispute with the stable that provided their mascot, Traveler, the great white stallion that charged up and down the length of the field prior to kickoff. They were threatening to end the relationship. Someone wrote a letter to the LA Times that said "Oh please, please don't discontinue Traveler. I know, he's not as BIG as some of the other members of the team . . . but he's smarter and goes to more classes."
John, thanks for the great photo. I’ve become a sting enthusiast if your work. I’m an early subscriber to your newsletter and a regular listener of your radio show and podcast. I’ve learned about what quality sports journalism is from you. A guy named Lance Dawes said he has sources that Dan Lanning and Auburn has mutual interest. He does not name any sources. From you I’ve learned to question unsourced claims. I’d love to hear your thoughts and findings on the Lanning to Auburn rumor. Thanks
