Indeed! Autzen hates purple. :-)

Great photos of the fireworks in Autzen. Too bad that the Grinch appeared to be coaching the defense in the second half.

John, I'm a little bamboozled. I have watched every Duck game this season and at times the defense seems impenetrable for short periods while it seemed a little weak at other times. You're more schooled and experienced in observing these things, I respect your thoughts. Did JMU become more adept at exploiting the Ducks defensive weaknesses or do you think the Ducks were complacent?

Two things explain this... A) For several seasons, I've watched opposing coaches make adjustments, and Oregon just isn't as good with in-game adjustments. B) Natural tendency to relax when you're up by a ton of points. C) Oregon is winning games in the offseason, out-recruiting everyone and preparing well. Don't discount the coaching involved with that. Recruiting is a big part of this.

A Monday Mailbag question,

John, Texas Tech had a top four season playing an otherwise inferior Big 12 schedule, as well as an inferior non-conference schedule, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State. Are the Red Raiders overrated or underrated?

Wonderful photos, especially of the Oregon cheerleaders (great matching jackets) and the fireworks over the stands. Really look forward to these game photos— nice touch for the column.

Not to change the subject, but what do you think about Drew Mestemaker as a replacement for the likely to depart Dante Moore?

Ah the smell of the gurgling Willamette river echoing into the night as the last rodeo clown locks the gate and shuts it down…
