Once again we learn just how fragile our existence on this spinning ball can be. All the best to him and his family.

Hope the best for him and his family. Maybe not the right time to ask this... But I have wondered how Anderson's immediate departure changed his outlook on what proper support for OSU sports meant. Beavs traditionally had the worst financial backing of not just the PAC12, but all of college football... Anderson leaves, leaves cash on the table... Barnes hires Smith and then spending becomes light-years better...

I know to Beavs fans Anderson is the reason for the collapse, but I have wondered if it deems a second look after the emotions have faded and the full effects can be seen

Andersen also abruptly left Wisconsin. I’m guessing his departures say more about him than the universities he left.

Your initial hesitance regarding the timing of a good question was worth consideration. 🙏

The Beavers did very well under Riley, with even less support than AndersEn received. AndersEn was a tool.

That maybe so, but Riley also never really received any financial support from the college. There was always talk about what Riley could have become if he just had equal the money to the bottom third of the conference. Like it or not, but Anderson's abandoning probably set up Smith to be fully supported by the school

We saw what Riley could do with more financial and alumni support when he ditched OSU for Nebraska. Riley failed miserably with all the facilities and resources at Nebraska. Andersen did not leave money on the table, it was simply money OSU did not have to pay out. Andersen had no choice because of his poor extracurricular activities. Barnes is a business man and put together a very good Facilities Management program. He was able to secure many small donations for facility upgrades in Track & Field, Softball and Gymnastics to name a few. In addition to upward of $90 million in donations going toward the Reser renovation.

As one who spent his career in the cardiac business, being involved with college athletics at a high level brings with it a high degree of stress. That’s not good vis a vis cardiac function! Having said that the folks at St. Agnes involved with cardiac care are superb!! Good luck!

Barnes was a lanky kid with stringy blond hair when he and rest of Fresno State team repeatedly knocked off highly ranked UNLV in Fresno in the 1980s, which always left the salty Jerry Tarkanian muttering and admiring the team from his alma mater. Barnes didn't have the athleticism of his graceful teammates. But he had a deadly jumper and a gritty style that made him a fan favorite. Get well!
