I think the Heisman should be renamed the Heisman QB Trophy and change the statue to a QB. Times change as RB's have been devalued in today's spread offense world, let alone a D player.
Glenn I stopped caring after McCaffery didn't win.
IMO the award should be presented after the postseason; especially, with the PO going to 12 teams.
We will soon see Stroud vs Stetson in the Peach Bowl. We will see Duggan as an underdog, in the Fiesta Bowl. And Williams, if healthy, playing a quality opponent (one that won at K ST in 2022) in the Cotton Bowl.
There is no reason these games should not be included in the Heisman calculus. The teams are playing in these bowls because of excellent QB play. Let's see how it plays out in the big postseason games?
This award is like most polls and rankings in that it ignores the west, unless it is USC. Jim Plunkett, Marcus Mariota and Gary Beban were outliers....another reason to detest the current state of college football. I remember the year JJ Arrington accumulated over 2000 yards at Cal and was ignored as was Aaron Rodgers.
Watch what happens in 2024...the SEC and Big 10 will have 6 teams in the college playoffs, plus Clemson and Notre dame will make 8...they will send the winner of the Pac? to play Alabama or Georgia in round 1 at a "neutral site," like Atlanta....a joke. They have been playing the "we hate the Pac-8/10/12" in basketball seedings ever since the Bruins won about 10 titles when the west was the west and it had 16 teams...I won't say fixed, but all of this is pretty close to that.
Change it to a statue of a RB and a receiver blocking while the qb runs. Yeah, I get it, but it's sad that it's always QBs now. Hard to beat the guy who touches the ball every play though.
You failed to mention Deion stipulated that Colorado LOWER they academic standards for his incoming FB players. I think that also included his son. So much for theStudent/Athlete at Colorado.
"...the Ducks need to be a lot better on defense next season or it won’t matter who calls the plays on offense."
^That^ 100%. I was never worried about who the OC would be next year. The concern is how bad the defense was (D-Line) was. All problems go back to the Defense. No pass rush makes it tough to get off the field. The Offense was good enough to win 2 of their 3 losses. If it does not improve, a bevy of meaningless bowls are coming this way.
I love Utah and Coach Whit. But Utah was projected to be CFP in the preseason. They debuted at #7 in the AP and that is where they are right now. Taking a page on the Ohio State high expectations of CFP or bust, Utah had a great year and in the Rose Bowl as repeat champs but honestly under achieved given the team we thought they had.
My vote would be for Jonathon Smith or Kalen DeBor. They both exceeded expectations.
PAC12 Coach of the Year; Kalen DeBoer, of course. Who else has accomplished more in one season?
Regarding Coach Prime; the next couple of years will reveal if Sanders is for real. Do we believe the hype? What IS for sure, it’ll be an entertaining ride.
Huskies will handle a petulant Sark&Co. with a proper showing of PAC12 superiority in San Antonio.
This is the one bowl game where the Pac-12 team is the dog (dawg?) and will, playing in San Antonio, basically be on the road vs Texas. Austin is a 90 minute or so drive to San Antonio.
Love for the conference's sake that Penix is coming back. UW ranked 12 and Penix not getting Heisman consideration is simply wrong.
I agree, UW will be more motivated than Texas w/ Penix announced return, this game starts a Heisman journey in 2023… and like DeBoer said, this is a game to showcase players
DeBoer did a great job. Technically Riley had a bit bigger turnaround. And Smith’s program progression is really good. I wouldn’t have a problem with any of them.
Coach Sanders is the motivator. It is the job of his staff to worry about x's and o's. It all comes back to his staff. It is a tough job for sure. But the portal will sure make it seem a lot easier.
Stanford hasn't made a hire yet, although they haven't had a lot of time. Seems like the whole team is slipping away through the portal. Why are players passing up a Stanford degree unless they plan to make a lot of money in pro football? Few on this year's team have pro potential.
Upon further review, almost all of Stanford's players who are transferring are going to receive their degrees by June. One problem for them is they are not necessarily going to get any preference for a graduate program because they played football, so they are looking elsewhere for their post-graduate education. Same thing happened last year.
Bowl games are a popularity contest. Hard stop. Mic drop, PERIOD...whatever get's me off this post.
Say what you want about the playoffs, but the current format (top 4) is a joke. it isn't a playoff at all. It is a 4 team invitational tourney. It goes back to popularity/opinion. At least the future model will reward 6 conference champions. It has always been my opinion, with every post season model we've had up to this point, that a team that fails to win it's conference has no business claiming a national championship. The proposed 12 team model will at least kill that argument in my mind.
The bowl system had/has it's place, but crowning a national champ from it simply is silly.
Shouldn't there be some sort of limits? I get it and it is useful, but what I don't want to see is somebody transferring every year. You should get 1 opportunity to transfer without penalty.
Completely agree. This portal nonsense is a joke. If the head coach who recruited you to his institution leaves the you should be able to transfer. Other than that it’s a bunch of crybabies taking their ball and going home.
I truly enjoy reading everyone’s comments. All good people that care about the sport and their team. I’m an outlier who could care less for any particular team. The spineless NCAA let this mess get out of hand. Portal, and NIL has ruined any hope for parity or an occasional dark horse to do well. It’s a billionaire’s game now. Can’t wait for one to buy a whole team. That day is coming. Should be fun.

NO. He stipulated that CU needed to change the manner in which it allows academic credit to be included in transfer consideration.
Oregon has fewer restrictions on transfer credits than did CU and does Stanford.
show me the article

Pedro - ditto, except for the FG kicker, (not so) Special teams.
When a win is reliant on special teams, either the offense or defense failed.
Sorry to disagree with you here my friend. Special teams is an integral part of the game.

A great point Josh -- one could actually, very seriously, argue that Utah and Coach Whit underperformed (to your point)
Context matters a lot in this situation
I love him, but he's not coach of the year -- shouldn't be in that mix at all
And Ohio State and not USC is in the final 4 because USC played in a conference champ game and tOSU did not.

GO DAWGS
Hope you are right and UW wins.

Pure Motivation for Alamo Bowl success as well as for next season’s march through the schedule 💪🏼

Taggart? Did I hear he is taking Taggart?
Taggart would be a great choice for those of us that wish Colorado mediocrity at it’s finest
GO DAWGS
He just signed the Kent State HC as his OC; a terrific hire.
🤯
GO DAWGS

I see Coach prime hired "slick Willie"....boy that should interesting...I wonder how long he'll stay b/4 he hits the road again?
Thanks Jon.
What's the over/under on a forward pass being thrown in the Las Vegas Bowl?
I just don't get some of these portal entries?
Drew Pyne. Where is this guy going to find a better gig than starting at QB for Notre Dame?
NY6 Bowl Math.
B1G - 3 teams ranked - $16M in NY6 revenue.
SEC - 6 teams ranked - $14M in NY6 bowl revenue.
Pac-12 - 6 teams ranked - $8M in NY6 bowl revenue.
I LOVE THIS GAME!

Thank God! I thought something happened to you!!
I feel as a fan that I am more loyal than the players. This portal nonsense needs to go.
Not happening after the NCAA was shot down by the Supremes.
At least we now have transfer portal windows.
Shouldn't there be some sort of limits? I get it and it is useful, but what I don't want to see is somebody transferring every year. You should get 1 opportunity to transfer without penalty.
I think there is only 1 free transfer without sitting out a year. Though then I think you also get a free grad transfer.
Someone needs to tell that to JT Daniels.
Completely agree. This portal nonsense is a joke. If the head coach who recruited you to his institution leaves the you should be able to transfer. Other than that it’s a bunch of crybabies taking their ball and going home.
Picture caption time:
Whittingham: We are going to kill you.
Riley: Ten million reasons why I don't care!
Whittingham: We're going to rip off your head and eat your children.
Riley: Having a sweet pool party at my crib New Years Eve. Wanna join us?
Will you share your Heisman vote after Dec 10 and let us know which 2 you had on your ballot?
It's the G5 schools that are going to benefit from the portal...
They now access to P5 players they never had before.
Whirlwind Week? Sorry, John, it appears to be the Pac-12 multi-millionaires are playing Checkers and not Chess. drjimxlaw64@gmail.com

Utah v Colorado. As long as Coach Witt is there, Utah a Zillion, Colorado zero. The “all about me” coach will not beat a solid program foundation .
