Canzano: Week 6 picks, predictions, and can't-miss thoughts
Picking winners is as easy as hitting a Wiffleball.
I talked with Mario Cristobal once about the jogs he’d take in his old Eugene neighborhood. The former Oregon football coach lived in proximity to Athletic Director Rob Mullens, and the two of them would occasionally bump into each other at a street corner while out for an early morning jaunt.
Eugene isn’t a raging metropolis. Mullens was also neighbors with Chip Kelly for a time. The AD’s sons, Cooper and Tanner, would occasionally come rushing into the house to announce that the UO football coach had stopped to pitch a Wiffle ball to them, out on the street.
“Let me see what you got!” Kelly would cry as he wound up.
The kids would swing from their sneakers.
I don’t know why this crossed my mind today. Maybe I miss playing Wiffleball. Or maybe my brain was reminding me that the personalities mixed up in this billion-dollar college sports business are still very much people.
It’s not Wiffleball, but I went 9-4 picking college football games straight up last week. I started the Friday night and early Saturday games 4-2-1 against the spread. Someone should have pulled me out of the sports book before the afternoon kicks. I whiffed on the late games and ended up 5-7-1 for the week.
2025 record vs. the spread: 28-27-1 (.509)
Overall record picking games, straight up: 37-19 (.661)
