Were there clues in Week 1 of college football? (Photo: Tim Healy)

Long-time Oregon coach Mike Bellotti used to crow all the time about the biggest improvements in his teams coming from Week 1 to 2.

Bellotti swore by it.

Does that adage hold true for all college teams? Or just the ones with veteran coaches? How about in this transfer portal era? Still, the same? Or does it take more time?

Week 1 was fascinating and filled with fun surprises. It’s a very small sample size, but there were some can’t-miss clues that help shape predictions and outcomes for Week 2 and beyond.

I don’t think we can draw sweeping conclusions about teams with a tiny sample size. But there were some big clues out there in Week 1, weren’t there?

In Week 2, I handicapped 11 different college football games. I’m looking for a big week against the spread.
