Ducks could lose out the regular season. Go Beavs.

And you could become a woman before then...Go Ducks.

Hi Grant, I know you are disappointed about the game yesterday but there is no need to be snarky as Patrick Logan was simply stating a strong possibility. Ducks have had a great year but their defense has been exposed (again) and it's defense that wins championships.

Agree. One especially nice thing about JC’s columns has been the civility of the comments during the season, despite having plenty of subscribers from UO, OSU, UW, WSU, and even some of the schools outside the PNW. Would love to see that continue.

If Nix is out, I fully expect that will happen. Can't see Oregon beating Utah or Oregon State with Ty Thompson at QB.

Penix torched the Ducks for 408 yards. 26 of 35 for 74%. He leads the nation in passing yards. He has gotten very little respect from people throughout the season. But he's making believers out of a lot of people especially how easily he passed Oregon silly in this game. His arm strength is off the charts. Check out that last touchdown throw again. From the opposite hash marks to the sideline between the corner and the safety. Impeccable throw, the kind you don't see that often at any level. Of course, he's benefiting from a terrific offensive line that gives him all day to throw. Ducks couldn't get close to him. They could not stop him. Washington is getting better, especially on defense each week. Players are finally healthy. They will be tough to beat the rest of the way. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Ducks finish with three losses.

Defense is getting better? Really?

Or maybe 4 losses!

4 losses is mathematically impossible.....just think about it. (this is one of those trick questions)

Expand full comment

I think the thought is with two losses already the Ducks could lose two more and finish with four. I dont see it

Expand full comment

ok i see what you guys are saying. I was thinking the poster was saying 4 losses to finish the season meaning 1) loss to UTAH and OSU and then their BOWL GAME and I was wondering where the 4th loss could come from and then I thought of the PAC 12 championship game but with losses to UTAH and OSU they would not be playing in that game.

Credit to the U. Penix and his band of recivers was too much today. Oregon will be fine. Still heaps to play for. Now is when Coach earns his money.

That was fully on the coaches for screwing around in the first half, and the Nix sneak in the 2nd half. They were young and cocky and it bit them. It didn't help that every time the defense would actually make a play they would get cocky and celebrate.

That defense is appalling. Expected it from Lupoi. Wondering about Lanning, as the UGA defense has been tremendous before, during, and after his time there. It does seem to take a season or two for the defense to learn the scheme, so hoping next year is better.

Awesome. Go Dawgs

Everyone knows who the better team is. That’s why Oregon is still ranked above Huskies. Stole one, though. Even how badly Oregon played on defense still only lost by 3. That’s how mediocre UW, is. Lmao..WSU will beat UW.

Hey Matt, your sour grapes are making this fine glass of purple wine taste even better

Congrats, interesting o see Dux fans can whine as much as USC. I guess rankings and recruiting stars are what really counts. Ore has one of the very worst pass defenses I have ever seen. Credit to Oregon to give up all those points and yards all year and win so many games. Better team is meaningless. Points really count...I think.

My Dawgs doing their part to making Oregon vs Washington again the most heated rivalry west of the Mississippi.

Oregon has had their way with us since 1994 and The Pick. They have fielded superior teams and, minus USC, have the most recognizable brand of any school in the West. Thank you Uncle Phil!

Perhaps, we will replay “The Slip”, thank you Noah Whittington, before every home game for the next 30 years.

I certainly don’t believe that the UW seismic shift will come anywhere near to The Pick but it is a significant victory in our program’s history.

A victory that this middle aged Husky will relish for a long time. WOOF!

The Ducks and Huskies game, which I watched until the OSU game started, showed me the Beavs have a very good chance to beat the Ducks at home on Nov. 26. The Beavs have one of the best defenses, if not the best, in the Pac 12. I also watched the Beavs lead the Huskies, in Seattle, all game last week. The Beavs defense stuffed Washington for most of the game just as they did against Cal last night. It is a game they should have won, against one of the best QBs in the country, on the road. OSU will have the Ducks at home and OSU is very tough to beat at Reser. I am going to the ASU game next Saturday expecting a Beavs win. And I expect a Civil War win on Nov. 26 and for the Beavs to end the year at 9-3, tied with Oregon for record and ahead for bowl game quality by lieu of a head to head win.

Expand full comment

Beavs "stuffed" Washington? Held UW to only 300 yards passing. UW ran 76 plays to OSUs 59, UW converted 11/18 third downs. AND Ore State had 13+ yards in the first quarter of that game. They finished with 260 total yards. UW held OSU to 135 total yards the last THREE quarters. Penix threw a pick 6. But the Dawgs went 90 yards for the winning FG. So yeah, just like Ore really beat Georgia, ORE State really beat UW. I guess UW is really 6-4 and unranked.

Did you even watch the game? OSU dominated the first half defensively. Did they play great in the 4th quarter? No, and that is why they lost. They led till the middle of the 4th. I made the statement that the Ducks have a much worse defense than the Beavers. Statistically, the Beavers D is the 2nd best in the Pac 12 after Utah. The Ducks are 7th out of 12 teams. Oregon State is going to do very well against the Ducks D, especially at Reser. I look forward to watching Ducks cry. https://www.espn.com/college-football/stats/team/_/view/defense/group/9

One thing is clear. If Nix is not 100%, it's time to give Butterfield an opportunity. Thompson is

not "the guy". For whatever reason, he is not getting it done. He certainly has the athleticism, but

appears to lack football-smarts? The defense isn't going to miraculously improve by next week. It could be a long game against Utah.

whattagame! Instant Classic, for sure

called it - Bow Down. Ducks didn’t lose; they were beaten by the better team

in spite of not being able to tackle, Washington did what was necessary to get the W (sorry) in a brutal environment

Huskies played well. It played out how I thought, minus the final score. But Oregon did more to stop themselves, than UW did. The first drive hands to the face netted the Ducks a loss of 32 yards, essentially. That ended in a FG instead of a TD. The fumble on the 2nd drive was self inflicted as well. The Ducks cost themselves 11 points on those 2 drives. That doesn't include nix missing on Franklin just before the half. Look, UW played a more complete game and got the win. But let's not pretend like they forced Oregon's mistakes.

One of the few things that hasn’t changed in college football over the last few decades is that the team making the least number of mistakes generally comes out victorious

Forced or unforced errors all calculate how good or bad a team is in the final analysis. "Beating yourself" is really the same as getting beat by your opponent. I know it feels better to say it but...

FORCE MIATAKES? Lets not pretend that Ore D was anything better than HORRIBLE. They not only could stop UW, they watched Penix complete LONG passes over and over. Oregon has a nice team but with that D now way are they top 10.,

This one's on me; I have been suggesting a "Left Coast Ivy League", never thinking the Ducks would play like Columbia today. And as I write this UCLA is staggering around the Rose Bowl. And USC didn't look so hot early last night. C'mon, Man!

No offense Quack fans, but we at Cal had our fill of Tosh Lupoi when he was there. In fact, when he departed from the Jeff Tedford womb (must be why the UO coach grabbed him since he is Fresnose State fellow) most of us breathed a really big sigh of relief...but hey, he is all yours now, just as we are stuck with your Justin Wilcox down here...you should pay Justin to come back as the D coordinator and we can hire Troy Taylor...works for me!

Heck of a game from the opening kickoff until the clock hit zero. Great offenses, very leaky defenses….but Oregon should have won it. They got away with that mindless 4th down gamble late in the first half with little upside and huge consequences had they not made it….then they got stupid AGAIN late and it bIt them in the ass. It’s a fine line between aggressive and reckless and the coaching staff crossed it tonight.
