Big Blue… the Utah State mascot at the Spectrum.

LOGAN, Utah — Seven inches of snow fell on Utah State’s campus on Wednesday. Classes were canceled. The basketball game that evening was played as scheduled, except the bus carrying Boise State’s basketball team to the Spectrum couldn’t make it up the hill to drop the Broncos off for a midday shootaround.

The players skated up the sidewalk in sneakers.

Boise State spent several hours on Wednesday night getting mocked, shouted at, belittled, teased, and ridiculed by Utah State’s student section. Members of The HURD wore surgical gloves (they make claps louder) and zeroed in on the Broncos’ season-opening loss to Division II Hawaii-Pacific.

“The Sharks are my favorite D2 team,” was printed on the backs of 400 T-shirts handed out to students. The students sang along to “Baby Shark” before the start of the second half. And Utah State smothered Boise State, 75-56.

This is Part 4 of my ongoing series about the new-world Pac-12. On Wednesday, I wrote a column about the trip to Logan. I was told I needed to see a men’s basketball game to fully understand the culture of the campus. I had dinner with the school’s athletic director, Cameron Walker, and then went to the game.
