This was desperation time. Chaos reigned. Oregon was down to its final snap in the fourth quarter, the proverbial bottom of the ninth with no time left, and Jamari Johnson took a lateral from Evan Stewart and was out of places to go himself.
Too far from the end zone. Nobody else nearby. So Johnson did what anyone in his panicked situation might do — he threw a no-look lateral in the direction of the setting sun and hoped for the best.
It fell to the turf and was scooped up by the celebrating Bruins, who collected a seventh turnover and an unthinkable upset victory.
UCLA beat Oregon, 17-15 on Saturday.
So much to unpack.
So many mistakes.
So many questions.
