Western Oregon players get justice

I wrote a column last year with the headline: “Why would I want to play for these idiots?”

It was a quote from Cali McClave, a senior on the women’s basketball team at Western Oregon. She’d written it on a slip of paper when administrators asked players to cast votes on whether they wanted to finish the 2023-24 season.

Nine players decided they didn’t want to play another minute for women’s basketball coaches Jessica Peatross and D.J. Marlow. The season ended six games early.

The players were subsequently stripped of their scholarships. Most of them left school and never played organized basketball again. What price do you put on that?
