Canzano: The truth about the Trail Blazers draft-day reach
Yang Hansen pick shocked the league.
Well, at least the Trail Blazers finally did something memorable.
They traded down in Wednesday’s NBA Draft. They swapped the No. 11 pick for the No. 16 pick, then used it to select a guy from China who happened to be sitting in the stands.
I have no beef with Yang Hansen, whose name is pronounced suspiciously close to “Young Handsome.” (How could Portland ignore a stage name and pass on branding like that?) Still, it was something special to hear one of the draft-expert TV talking heads be put on the spot seconds after the surprise pick and admit: “Not going to lie — I got nothing.”
