Canzano: The answer is "money"... now, what was the question?
A school. A college coach. An NBA owner.
I woke to a text message on Saturday morning from a friend who posed a question.
“Without looking it up,” the message read, “how much is Jeff Bezos worth?”
Today’s subject: Money.
The topic surfaced this week when Boise State Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey provided written testimony to the Idaho State Board of Education. The Broncos are facing what could be an $18 million deficit, Dickey says. It made me think about UNLV.
More on that in a bit.
Money also came up this week in a $2.4 million lawsuit filed by Keith Heyward against Oregon State. It’s never fun when a former football assistant and proud alum litigates your socks off, particularly when you don’t have a pair of spare socks.
As Heyward told me on Saturday: “I just wanted them to leave me alone. I did everything the right way.”
I feel like I could play mediator on that one.
More on that shortly.
Money also came up again in the Trail Blazers arena saga involving new owner Tom Dundon. He would love fans to buy tickets this season and help him make money, even as he has, so far, refused to sign a long-term lease with the city.
An athletic department.
A coach.
An NBA owner.
Where do we start?
