Canzano: Smoke still around Scott Barnes at Oregon State

Any relationship worth keeping works well for both sides. I wonder when the one between Oregon State fans and Athletic Director Scott Barnes stopped making sense.
A current Division I athletic director called me on Wednesday to tell me a well-known search firm reached out, unprompted, and said they suspected the OSU job might open as soon as next week.
Lots of murmurs out there, and Barnes has definitely lost the room with fans, but I don’t have his imminent departure from Oregon State confirmed. However, I do think all the smoke out there raises questions about the fire blazing behind the scenes.
