Canzano: Oregon State president says WSU and OSU are "ready for the fight"
Jayathi Murthy gives an exclusive 1-on-1 interview.
The president at Oregon State University lives in a home provided by the school. It sits just a mile from the edge of campus in Corvallis and Jayathi Murthy confessed on Saturday “shamefully, I drive two miles a day.”
Saturday was football game day. OSU unveiled the $161 million Reser Stadium renovation. The Beavers delivered a 55-7 win over UC Davis on the field. And — quietly — Murthy celebrated her official one-year anniversary on the job.
Also, she dug in for a legal battle her school needs to win.
Speaking in an exclusive 1-on-1 interview with me, OSU’s president underscored why Monday’s hearing in Whitman County (Washington) Superior Court is vital. She wagged a finger at the departing Pac-12 schools, shook her head at the broken ecosystem of college athletics and wondered where the visionaries have gone.
Said Murthy: “We’re ready for the fight.”
