Canzano: Oregon State in search of true potential
Test coming vs. UCLA... and, later, Washington/Oregon.
BERKELEY, Calif. — The game was over. The post-game interviews were done. Oregon State’s equipment managers packed up the jerseys and stacked the shoulder pads. They were busy wheeling giant bins filled with equipment around the underbelly of Memorial Stadium on Saturday night when I caught the scent of barbecue sauce and ribs in the air.
The Beavers had just finished beating Cal 52-40. OSU’s players grabbed their post-game meals and were spilling out of the stadium toward family, friends and the waiting bus. But Oregon State’s assistants were back inside the visiting locker room sitting on folding chairs, eating ribs, watching the final minutes of USC’s triple-overtime win over Arizona on a television set.
