Oregon State reached out to Portland State recently to ask if it could move their previously scheduled 2025 home football game, I’m told.
The Vikings are set to play in Corvallis on Aug. 30, 2025. The Beavers were trying to move the non-conference game to October 11.
It was a curious request.
Play Portland State… in October?
I don’t typically track future non-conference football schedules any more than the next person. But given that Oregon State and Washington State are trying to figure out what they’ll do for 2024 and beyond, I’ve been doing more listening.
OSU reversed course on Tuesday night and informed Portland State that it didn’t need to move the game, after all. The Beavers will keep the Week 1 date with the Vikings in 2025 — for now. But as I poked around one thing became evident: the Beavers and Cougars are definitely plotting.
What are they up to?
Beavers athletic director Scott Barnes declined comment on Wednesday. Barnes would only say that “all options are being considered and we are making progress overall.”
What else I know…
