Trading out Cristobal for Lanning is one of the best things that’s happened to Oregon in a long time. This state is very lucky to have a coach like that leading its team.
He also gave us a close win over Stony Brook and a beatdown NY6 bowl loss to Iowa State. And a GameDay in the house to Stanford, where he pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.
A team with Justin Herbert at QB should have been in the PO instead of losing at ASU.
Miami, yet again, is 4-0 to start the season. It's not how you start ...
What a gift it is to have the deep pocket support of Phil Knight helping to win a championship. Especially now when there are absolutely no controls or limits on spending. A championship in this era seems less meaningful, the deepest pockets will end up battling out.
Less meaningful in an era where talent is more evenly distributed than ever before, and where more teams have a fair shot at winning? Nope. Not even a little bit. Take your mopey nonsense somewhere else. This is a celebration of a great college football game.
Didn’t even need to look at the profile, you knew it was a cry baby from the beavs. Just go back and talk about the days Coach Casey won the World Series. You have no right to talk football you haven’t played the game for 6-8 years.
Amen to that. And I have ZERO respect for Cristobal because of the Way he left, lying his ass off, saying he hadn’t talked to Miami. Well no, maybe not, but his agent sure was. They can have him.
ESecPN got all dressed in white for the Gameday show to predict a Penn State Win, and then buried the Ducks' win on their website. Few thought the Ducks would win, Yet by the stats, the Ducks outplayed Penn State in every category, even though the final score didn't suggest that. What is all the more amazing is the maturity of this young team- seemingly unfazed by the supposed "one-score advantage" of the White Out. That's all we heard about from the prognosticators. The Ducks weren't listening. Freshmen played like seasoned veterans, not first year players. And any questions about Dante Moore and Oregon's O and D lines got answered by "wow." This team is for real. Enjoy your bye-week, Ducks. You earned it!!
Yes, one lone vote, but it was a total love fest for Penn State. From The Mouth McAfee "THE PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS WIN THE BIGGEST GAME THAT THEY HAVE WON IN THE LAST TEN YEARS" ROTFL!
Great tenacity in an unbelievable atmosphere. This was a prize fight with blow after blow from each side until the final TKO.
I was fortunate to be one of the 111,015 people who pretty much didn't sit down for 4 hours. The white out was intimidating, loud, and everyone was totally engaged. What an experience!
I also have to say that every Penn State fan that we interacted with before and during the game were extremely hospitable and friendly.
Certainly an experience and game that I'll never forget. Go Ducks! 🦆
This was a high emotional game that in my 60 years as a Duck fan and also Alumi I have experienced. We were watching while YouTube lasted but listening to Jerry Allen brought the game to us in Australia, could you hear me screaming when Dillon intercepted the ball. Awesome GO DUCKS 🦆💛💚. 5-0
Big fly fishing bum here, but got transferred to SoCal. Grew up fly fishing steelhead on the Rogue — then the McKenzie & Willamette extensively while a student at Oregon. The 4:30 hatch on the McKenzie was nuts.
That was the REAL Dan Lanning and the real Oregon Ducks. Couldn't be more proud of how they represented UO and the state. WOW, what a W. Thank you DUCKS as my eyes were glassy also watching Coach's post game interview. He knows there is still a long road ahead this season so just keep fighting DUCKS.
The Ducks nearly gave it away too. The raw emotion was there at the end. Hats off to the Penn State defense. They gave everything Oregon could handle. I knew if the Ducks could stop the run, they had a chance. It went 15 rounds. GREAT FINISH! Looking forward to seeing PSU possibly again in the CFP. 👍👍
Don’t get me wrong, but up two scores should have been enough, in the fourth. Ducks fell asleep, up 14. Then down to 7, then tied. Oregon woke up and got the job done in 2OT, but it should have never gotten that close. The defense had a huge game overall.
The Ducks got burned on a couple of passes and were ground down late by PSU, but had huge stops for three quarters and in the second OT. I think I was watching the same game, right? And, our offense > their offense.
JC - One side comment. I am confused on the "targeting" rule and this "crown of the helmet" qualification. I think everyone saw the hit that UO back took in the 4th quarter. Lanning, the players and everyone that saw it were screaming "targeting". The replay showed helmet to helmet direct contact and the ball carrier's head violently snap-back. If that wasn't targeting, then they might as well get rid of the rule. I'm quite sure it would have been ruled targeting in NFL. It should definitely be in college. If we care about our young player's brains, something needs to be done. The defensive player launched and hit. I'm not saying it was malicious, but it was targeting.
If you were listening to the game commentary, the rules expert explained why it was not targeting. First, the QB had established himself as a runner and was not “defenseless”. 2nd, the tackler did not lead with the “crown”, which we were informed is the area at the very top of the helmet. The replay showed the the defender and the runners helmets made contact with the frontal areas, respectively.
At first, I wondered why there was no flag, but the rules analyst clarified the ruling. The QB was attempting to continue the run forward and had not given himself up when the collision occurred. It was a nasty hit, but it was a legal hit.
AJ - well their have been several follow-ups that echo my sentiment. I listened to every word of the explanation, processed it, watched the hit three times....and was still amazed that they didn't call targeting. 6 in dimeter from the crown!!! That rule STINKS and should be changed if we care at all for the safety of the athletes. That hit could have snapped his neck it was so violent. And the runner was effectively down when this tackler came "flying in". That was my point.
It may have conformed to the “letter of the law” but violated the “spirit of the law”. Nobody believes it was intentional but it should have been called no doubt.
I’m a quadriplegic (injured in a boating accident). I managed football at Oregon in 74 & 75 (pre-injury). We don’t need anymore members of “the club.” Change the rule!!
Agree with the previous commenters. If the rule is not enforced then just get rid of it. The idea was to protect players from needless injury and they’re not doing that. Hopefully no serious injuries occur due to their incompetent judgement.
Thanks for the observations, John. Terrific stuff. It is so great that you were there on this momentous night. Lucky you!
Fun team whose leadership is focused, friendly, skilled, and authentic. One of the most historic games in Ducks history. 111,000 fans! How awesome is that⁉️
Even when the defense sagged a little in the 4th quarter, the Ducks stayed as a unit and did not quit. They could give given this game away a few times, but did not, and made a play to win it instead. A great win in an unbelievably hostile environment!
Ho hum. Just a nice little boring win. NOT! When Ducks went up 17-3, I knew there was too much time left and that Penn State would fight hard to come back at home. It looked bleak in the OT since all the momentum was on their side. The resilient Ducks, which is a reflection of their coach, hung in. Then, BAM!!, interception and Celebration!!! The Duck Defense was so great tonight. We were all a little worried about the run defense, but they sure showed up tonight. The Ducks have evolved from mostly highly skilled players in past years to Skilled, Strong, Huge, and Tough. They can battle with the Big Boys now.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Cristobal, he gave us our pride back, but yeah Lanning is the best fit for us.
Mario gave us a Rose Bowl and a win to remember at Ohio State. Lots of respect for what he did. He left an excellent foundation for Dan to build on.
He also gave us a close win over Stony Brook and a beatdown NY6 bowl loss to Iowa State. And a GameDay in the house to Stanford, where he pulled defeat from the jaws of victory.

Miami, yet again, is 4-0 to start the season. It's not how you start ...
He showed us you could recruit here, but he left nothing here for us to build on. Remember planning released like 35 players
No Doubt! Thank goodness folks in Coral Gables convinced Mari-oh-oh to go MIA.

Just finish a game at home against Houston!
Addition by subtraction.
Amen to that. And I have ZERO respect for Cristobal because of the Way he left, lying his ass off, saying he hadn’t talked to Miami. Well no, maybe not, but his agent sure was. They can have him.

Howard picked UO.
Yes, one lone vote, but it was a total love fest for Penn State. From The Mouth McAfee "THE PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS WIN THE BIGGEST GAME THAT THEY HAVE WON IN THE LAST TEN YEARS" ROTFL!
I get it, big media are just shills.
I cut cable and only watch sports at other folks places, much more pleasant now.
GameDay? Were those Good Humor Men or mob bosses?
Come on, Saint Nick. Picking against your pupil Danno in favor of Jimmy Small Game?
Great tenacity in an unbelievable atmosphere. This was a prize fight with blow after blow from each side until the final TKO.

Hope you saw it better than some of those low, outside curveballs you missed for 20 years.
Just kidding. Attended many umpire clinics with you and enjoyed it immensely. Remember—angles and timing!
Ha! I mean I had a 50/50 shot 😳🦆
Hey, Blue, bend over and use your good 👁️ !
🦆
Too bad fans for pro teams can't be civil - beatings, knives, etc.
How dare you disrespect us by wearing a different team's gear, sheesh.
Canzano: “The pick: Penn State 30, Oregon 24.”
Correct score. Incorrect winner. But I understand your reasoning. Just happy Oregon came through in the end. Go Ducks.
3-3 at halftime didn't seem to fit, either way.
Great win for Oregon. Just great.

I was watching from New Zealand. I am a Duck alum. Go Ducks!
I think I’d like to live there. Although I can’t imagine leaving my Ducks! 😊
How’s the fly fishing?
Amazing, but don’t tell anyone. I am a huge trout bum over here. Miss the Deschutes steelhead run, but the fish can get big here.

HUH? How about the Oregon D? The Ducks only had the chance to 'give it away' because they won both LOS for the majority of the game.
This is not a scoring-oriented, finesse Ducks team. This is a punch you in the mouth team that can play ball with any team in the nation.

Todd, the other team was not OK State. PSU woke up after being held down by the Ducks' defense all game.
Great comment, Sir. Great game.

I’m with you Skip. When a players head gets snapped back with that kind of violence it needs to be called. No matter what.

Yes, I heard all that. But they need to change the rule because it was a very dangerous hit.
I’m a quadriplegic (injured in a boating accident). I managed football at Oregon in 74 & 75 (pre-injury). We don’t need anymore members of “the club.” Change the rule!!
Yes I di very distinctly growing up in New England.
I agree! Ridiculous that it wouldn’t be considered targeting. What’s the point, then?!
Agree with the previous commenters. If the rule is not enforced then just get rid of it. The idea was to protect players from needless injury and they’re not doing that. Hopefully no serious injuries occur due to their incompetent judgement.
Excellent points. As of now, the rule is empty—no real protection of the players.
❤️❤️❤️ WOW!
Thank you for the wonderful in person coverage.
Dan bags a B1G win! PSU is now 1-6 in its last white outs.
Tosh? Now 2-1 vs Jim Knowles. Dante? Can you ask for anything Moore from a young man who chose to wait and learn.
Dante is in the Heisman mix. Has any coach ever taken three QBs in a row to NYC for the Heisman ceremony?
Thank you JJ

Turnovers always win game. But the only turnover in the game? In overtime 2?
Seldom have I seen defenses so quick to the ball.
What a game.

Spot on as usual John. The glassy eyes (Lanning and Moore) said it all.
Thanks B.

Ducks win. USC and Washington lose. It was a great week of college football.
Actually, USC, Washington and UCLA lost. Oregon saved the day for the former Pac 12!!!
Especially since Stanford barely edged SJ Spartans!
Doesn’t get any better…unless the Raiders lose, too.
I was thinking the same thing. 👍🏻
We made a pizza, sighed a few times, and high fived! Go Ducks!
