Canzano: Oregon Ducks football enjoys recruiting sunrise
Sense of urgency around Phil Knight.
Dan Lanning washed down the University of Oregon’s signing-day success with a pot of coffee and look out the window in the wee hours on Thursday morning.
The Lanning family spent the night in Central Oregon.
“We snuck away to see a mountain sunrise,” the coach told me from Sisters.
A day earlier, Lanning and his staff at Oregon stole the show on the opening day of the early signing period. The Ducks landed a pile of coveted recruits, flipping the commitments of a line of four-star and-five-star players who were previously headed to places such as Notre Dame, LSU and Baylor.
Oregon capped the day by beating USC and Ohio State for five-star defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei. Then, Lanning ate dinner with his family at the Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill and celebrated his top-10 recruiting class by puffing on a cigar.
